While I was over in Brissie I got a chance to see, both from the air and driving past, this quite amazing looking stadium called the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre (although everyone still seems to call it ANZ Stadium).
It's very impressive - holds 48 000 - but here's the thing: nowadays it's only ever used for school athletics carnivals and the like. Seems an awful waste to have those big panels of seats sitting there doing nothing! I wonder how difficult it would be to ship a couple of them over...

The old Commonwealth games stadium....QE2
Built for the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games.
Famous for the big kangaroo at the opening ceremony.
Interestingly the first athletics stadium to have 9 lanes on the track to cater for GPS.
Was used for Brisbane Broncos in the early years but they complained about distance from the field of play and built Suncorp.
Is it just me or does that one seem as far from the action as Subi Oval?
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
A little closer to subi by way of angle of the stands....
Probably further in the corners - impressive but not ideal for football. It's like a giant Perry Lakes.
That stadium might not be ideal, but I thought the question was more whether those temporary stands might be a low cost option for expanding MES capacity? They don't look a bad option for mine...
Speaking of MES, noticed this week some activity about the place. Looked like either scaffolding or temp sitting stuff being brought it.
Wouldn't surprise me, the Glory are in the middle of a 2 week road trip
It is the ongoing use of the ground that bothers me when looking at the modification workscope. Does anyone have a feel for the available time to carry out the upgrade of the media boxes and playing surface sub-soil drainage, given that they probably won't be usable while the upgrades are being carried out?
Many of those stands are "temporary" although they have been there fore nearly 30 years.
I believe that similar stands are in place in some regional Qld cities - Cazaly Stadium in Cairns springs to mind - although I think that one is covered.
yeah i used to live down the road from ANZ Stadium(although it isnt sponsored by ANZ anymore), had season tickets to the Broncos and went to the infamous state of origin match where Alfie Langer returned from England, also i went to a few school athletics tournaments there as well.
Once Suncorp Stadium was built, i couldnt even comprehend returning to ANZ.
I thought the Broncos played at ANZ because they were sponsored by Powers Beer and Lang Park would only sell XXXX

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa
