Eddie Jones on 882 6PR tonight 13/3/07

What time was Eddie on 6PR? I listened from 6.30 until just after 7pm but he wasn't on. Barra reckoned he couldn't get him on his phone....(running scared?!).......what happened?!

Andy S, in case you missed it, Barra asked why Qld has no players when they have a strong club comp. Eddie said it's not a matter of not having enough players, it's not having enough good players. Club guys train twice a week, Super 14 train every day. It's too much of a jump. Another reason why that third tier comp is so overdue. Cheers.

I didn't actually expect the questions to be asked, but glad to be of help. They were actually all one big leading question: The jump from club to S14 is too big, which is why the ARC is so important. This was an inevitable outcome of the game going professional and, as one of the coaches over the last 10 years, Eddie arguably has to bear some responsibility for the 10 year delay in getting it in place. He knows that, otherwise the lack of an ARC would be his explanation for a lack of depth (as Ewan McKenzie has stated), not losing a few players to another team. He would not be in any better position even if the Force had not eventuated, as probably only 10 of the Force players would be getting any exposure to S14 and the rest would still be playing club rugby that is - oh yeah - too big a gap.

I heard the interview though, and none of that would have been appropriate for the tone. He seemed all fairly chummy - wonder if he thinks the local support might be all a bit too potentially rabid to go poking with sticks.

I listened into that Not The footy show as they gave me a song sheet on Friday last week and thought I would see what it was like. They had Eddie on and even though they asked the hard questions he came over really well and had a laugh.
Interesting was that his back line for the Wallabies would be Giteau at half back, he believes that is where he is best although conceded he could play at 9,10 or 12.
Also advocated more funding into the development of the game, and that Gitaeu and Tuquiri's salaries are bad for the game, Rugby cannot afford these wages yet.
It was a good show, I may give it a go next week.
