You almost wonder how much more damage the QRU can inflict on their own feet, short of hiring Hird as a performance consultant...
Greg Martin slams Richard Graham Reds reappointment

EX-WALLABY Greg Martin has warned the Queensland Rugby Union’s decision to reappoint Richard Graham as Reds coach will cost them in crowd numbers.
Graham was confirmed on Tuesday at the Reds coach for the 2016 Super Rugby season following an end-of-season review.
Despite being forced to reapply for his position and having just a 28 per cent winning record as a Super Rugby coach, the Reds opted to stick with Graham, reporting to executive general manager Daniel Herbert under a new structure.
Martin, a fullback who made over 60 appearances for Queensland and played in nine Tests for Australia, believed the decision was a bad mistake.
“This has tested my faith,” Martin told the Triple M Brisbane Grill Team.
“All the season ticket holders, they’re going to experience one of the worst crowd seasons ever, no-one is going to buy any tickets.
“In 2014 we finished 13th, this year we finished 14th, how are we going?
“Why wouldn’t we change the coach? I don’t care how a good a bloke he is... there’s so much rubbish politics in this.”
Martin said QRU chief executive Jim Carmichael would be the man to suffer if the appointment didn’t work out.
The QRU said they had received over 20 applications for the coaching role from Australia and overseas but concluded Graham was the right man for the job.
Martin took issue with that.
“He’s a good man Richard Graham, a lovely fella, but that doesn’t make good coaches,” he said.
“They did a review that took months. They’re saying there wasn’t a better applicant putting his hand up, I knew some of the people, there were better applicants.
“What it says is the QRU, well done, you’re accepting mediocrity that’s what you are doing. Nice work, thanks for hurting us all.”

Anybody know who some of the high profile applicants were please?
I seem to remember someone on here saying that the fact the QRU were having a selection process at all probably meant they were going to reappoint Graham but just wanted to make it seem like a merit selection. Seems like that person was dead right!
And judging by the backlash, I'd say the QRU seriously underestimated their rugby public's ability to smell a rat!

That was me, I might not now too much about rugby, but I can smell bullshit politics a mile away.
Now the QRU will come out halfway through next season, when morale in the team and the supporters is at a record low and beg the ARU to fund whatever hairbrained scheme Dick comes up with to solve the problem, because he's an expert at deflecting the blame. They'll buy better players (all on the ARU's checkbook of course) They'll build a new "Performance Centre" They'll ravage the other teams in the comp....they'll do anything and everything short of sacking the coach, because it has now become a job-saving opportunity for Jim Carmichael, he will be the one tarred with this and he will lose his job when it comes up pear-shaped.
Richard Graham will be premier of Queensland in ten years!

Probably not politically correct but humour all the same!
Good predictive work GIGS!!
When you talk about a "performance centre", how many people do you think it'll need, coz there is already a cast of thousands in there as a result of the 'root and branch' review they've just done! Any more performance 'gurus' and there'll be more of them than there are playing squad members!!
