This is an extract from an article in the SMH. It concerns NRL telecasts into Melbourne but there are some interesting parralells to the treatment of Rugby telecasts by the FTA networks here in Perth.

"Ten shows AFL on Saturday night in Sydney and is thrashed by Iron Chef on SBS, but is determined to "help grow the game".

Similarly, Seven allows Foxtel to televise its AFL Friday night Match of the Round in the northern states, or "the developing states" as the AFL confidently calls them. Yet the NRL swallows the excuse about "damaging the product"."

One excellent point that could equally be made to the ARU - even if the game gets hosed by the AFL in a live head-to-head, do they really think it will rate better when it is delayed to a post-midnight slot?

Espeacially when Foxsports is screening the game live, all it takes is for someone to head to a pub or a mates etc to see the game and not have to stay up to see it.
