Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I've just had a phone call.

Guts of the conversation was, if I had nothing better to do, would I care to go to the match tonight, quality seating, might even be a box, gratis?

And afterwards, again, if I had nothing better to do, would I care to attend the official after match function with the players and administration at a top city hotel, food and drinks included, also gratis?

I actually have nothing better to do tonight, except perhaps join you lot at B's and later at the bowling club.

    I'm now in a quandary.

    What do you suggest?

Screen your calls. Then you won't end up with these problems

Well, I went to the game today and wasn't impressed. Two second tier sides, one a little better than the other.
Australia had superior fitness and the remnants of an era when they were a first tier team, Gregan, Waugh, Tiquiri, Latham, and precious little else on the field to start with- there were far better players on the bench- Smith and Mortlock to name two.

When the bald headed guy came on for Gregan at half back he was woeful (can't remember his name-Henjak and O'Young would have run rings around him).

Mitchell and Staniforth were adequate. The hooker , until he was replaced, was not bad. Can't be enthusiastic about the props, I suppose they did their job in the tight against little opposition but did FA else.

Second rows reasonable, especially in the lineouts, but again, nothing much to compete against.

All in all, the sort of performance that would guarantee a 50 point loss against the the AllBlacks and the 'Boks.

But the after match function was something else. Plenty of grog and canapes at the Duxton, fine speeches, and a couple of great songs sung by the Fijians.

I had a chance to speak to and look close at a few of the players.

Matt Dunning is no longer a dumpling. He is still large ,but he is carrying bulk and muscle, not lard.Tuquiri is a pleasant, non assuming type, most at home talking to his mates, and proud of his Fiji heritage. The newly capped second row (name escapes me) is young, enthusiastic and humble- the kid next door type. Very refreshing to see.

At the request of Coach I went and introduced myself to Scott Staniforth and gave him Coach's regards-he seemed appreciative.

Just a snap shot of a different evening out- sorry if my assessment isn't glowing, but I think we have a long way to go to be back where we were four years ago. At least our guys seem to understand it and aren't deluding themselves.

I agree Cordingley had a great season (in the S14) last year but his two performances for AA and one for the Wallabies have sucked ass. Drop him! I know I am going to get lynched for saying it but I honestly think Kurtley Beale also sucks ass. The only 2 good things he did in the last two A games were his try scores and the first was an accident and the second barely made up for 15 minutes of uselessness.
