“It will not have any material impact on the club”. Of course not; the club is bankrolled by the ARU.
Proudly Western Australian; Proudly supporting Western Australian rugby
I think we all know about the dangers of throwing stones inside our own glass-house (q.v. the FirePower saga), but the Melbourne Rebels' continuing tales of financial woe have gone beyond the limits of credible fiction.
How do the ARU/RA plan to dig themselves out of this deepening financial hole?
- More largesse from the Victorian taxpayers?
- Somehow get their hands on a portion of the Minderoo money?
- Increase the player levy and/or registration fees?
- Ask for a bailout from World Rugby?
It's a sobering thought that after 20 years, the Melbourne Storm may only now be breaking even (cumulative losses since 1998 may be in the order of $100M).

Based on the best on-field performance of any NRL franchise. Even allowing for the two titles lost to salary cap cheating. MRRU are not even within a bulls roar of that ball park
I also wonder how much advance Vic taxpayer funding has already been thrown into the pit.

So many mixed stories on that one and then you have the issue of the major sponsor in financial dire straits.

In NZ for a couple of days. Watched their version of Kick n Chase. They talked about what’s wrong in Australian Rugby.
1. No senior coaching development in 10yrs
2. No junior Rugby development over the last 10yrs
3. Snr leadership within the team does not exist. Last World Cup Aust has 100 gamers Giteau, AAC, Mitchell and Capt Steven Moore.
They now have a Capt that is not the best 7 in Australia and his SR peers did not include him in the players choice for the best SR team. He spends more time fixing his hair than captaining. No strong Snr leadership group effects team culture.
Loved the show!

Australia holding out for a draw over in the UAE.
Usman Khawaja is a champion, shame the Marsh Brothers showed the same amount of ticker as their scores in the second innings.
Clyne has come out to express unequivocal support for Michael Cheika just like he and Pulver expressed unequivocal support for the Force in 2016.
I wonder if they've picked his replacement yet? or are they going to start the job search after they dump him like a load of hot shit
C'mon the![]()
