The problem wasn't the Force. After all, they were always crap, a laughing stock. Snagged an occasional win over the Crusaders, that's about it. Never made the finals despite bucket loads of cash and recruiting entitlements from the ARU.
The problem was the Reds and Tahs, champions in recent years, failing to perform to their usual high level. And to a lesser extent the Brumbies. And of course the Rebels, who have been improving each year and threatening the finals....they were hit with a Speight of injuries, and couldn't keep the upcurve going this year. So, to improve AusConf performance the Heartland teams need to lift, not the periphery over west.
It seems illogical that the way to lift said performance was to cut the worst performing team, and redistribute it's useless borderline rejects and journeymen. Surely the way to go is get rid of the dead wood and geriatrics in the Reds and Tahs, and bring in deserving Shute Shield guys from Randwick plus a brace of league Fijian Flyers. Give the Rebels another four or five mill to do some recruiting overseas, so they can claim Gill etc as Victorian products....and move Wessels over, after all he 8s an employee of the ARU. And hope the Brums muddle through like they always have. Voila, performance upgrade.

I would like to congratulate Tim North and Gary Gray on their appointment to the Rebels board
Rebels announce board changes
YESTERDAY AT 9:06 PM SUPER RUGBY
by Beth Newman
The Rebels have announced a new board structure, aiming to bring the professional and community elements closer together.
VRU chairman Tim North will now sit on the Rebels board, with Rebels deputy chairman Paul Docherty sitting on the VRU board.
The VRU regained ownership of the Rebels in August, after former owner, Imperium Sports Management exercised a put option, that returned the club for just $1.
This new structure aims to bring the grassroots and professional parts of the Victorian game closer together, a statement said on Tuesday night.
VRU and Rebels chairman Tim North said the move was a critical one.
"The VRU endorsement of the new Rebels board heralds a new beginning that will see a high level of collaboration between professional rugby and community rugby,” he said in a statement
Docherty said this was part of plenty of change to come for the team.
“Today’s announcement ushers in an exciting new era for the Melbourne Rebels and for rugby here in Victoria,” Docherty said.
“The recent appointment of David Wessels and the strengthening of the Rebels’ squad, following a number of experienced key signings, has established a powerful platform for on and off field success for the club.
“I’m delighted to contribute to Victorian rugby through the Rebels and VRU board, as I have a lifetime and history of experience in grassroots rugby in Victoria and Canberra.”
The Rebels board is set to add more directors in ‘the future’.

Let's hope the Senate Inquiry ensures North and Gray won't get to attend many board meetings

Is there any way of checking whether the ARU has the Rebels IP?

One thing make my ears twig up during Clydes evidence. He said the Rebels has produced more Wallabies quicker than the Force.
I know its probably in the great bug spreadsheet but what players from each side have made Wallaby debuts? I bet he is counting the likes of Beale and O'connor as Rebels.....
No, he's counting charity cases like Jordan uluese and that prop that they gifted a game with
It's likely there were some rushed selections purely to pad out the spreadsheet

He is including CLL, Rocky, Digby and Taps....played in Victoria at school level. He is forward casting Billy.
He is excluding Hodgo, Bam, Judas, Cross, Spanner, Cam, Big Dog, Cheese, Dicky, DHP, Adam, Pek, Tet, Honeybadger, Brownie, etc (I'm sure there are more) as none were born here. He excludes the Mayor because he captained the Tahs and Curtis came from League.
In fact the massive spreadsheet shows the Force have not produced a single Wallaby.
