TALENT spread thin across five Australian teams is no excuse for the poor performances of Australia’s Super Rugby players, Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has declared ahead of a SANZAAR board meeting this week.
Cheika says he will accept the ARU cutting one of its five teams at Thursday’s meeting if it is in the best interests of Australian rugby, but made clear that the current crop of players must not use having five teams as an excuse for the disastrous start to the 2017 season.
The Melbourne Rebels have leaked 127 points in the first two games, the Brumbies are also winless after two games for the first time since 1999, and the Waratahs lost 55-36 to the Lions last weekend — the first time they’ve conceded 50 points since their 96-19 thrashing to the Crusaders in 2002.
It comes as television figures show a New Zealand derby outrated every game involving Australian teams on Australia’s Fox Sports last week.

Just goes to show the power of advertising...
To be a little fair....
The Force/Reds game was on a Thursday
the Rebels game was 3PM on Saturday (Melb time)
the Tahs was midnight (Sydney time)
and the Brumbies well, they come from Canberra!
So really not Prime time anywhere.
And all the kiwi games were either derbies or home games in relatively attractive time slots for Australian based viewers.
Then add on the Kiwi diaspora and no wonder their tv figures look good.
Brums also got a good crowd at the stadium, so probably didn't have anybody left to watch them on the telly

No point drilling down to the facts of a situation if said facts don't fit the story you want to write. It's a Telecrap article after all, so the readership are generally unlikely to give it much thought.
Most of Qld would have been watching the Bronco's season opener.
There's a thought - if we made league illegal more people would watch super rugby
