Jargs sometimes I agree with you and the ARU, but sometimes I think that the ARU should get more involved.
At the end of the day ARU is responsible for the promotion and growth of the game of Rugby Union within all of Australia.
The ARU should be responsible for our "Premier" team the Wallabies to be the best team in the world.
The ARU should have the ability to say to a player that we want you to play for the XXXXX Super Rugby team for the next 2 years - to help promote and develop that team in that environment.
There should never have been the problem like the Brumbies had 3 years ago when they had signed all of the junior (20-23 year old 5/8th)

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa
Why should the ARU get more involved X?
Isn't that why they have selectors and coaches appointed to the job of picking the Wallabies squad/match 22?
The ARU is not there to micro manage the Super Rugby sides
I'll agree with you regarding the growth of the game though, the ARU could probably play a more active role but that's a discussion for another thread
I thought that was an offer the Reds had made, 'if he wants to play for another Australian franchise he should give up his Wallaby top up'
(admittedly, I haven't read the article myself, so I could be completely on the wrong track)
If they made that statement (we're happy to release him from the last year of the contract if he doesn't renew his ARU contract) it leaves an open door for him to walk out and try to prove himself. I guess the success or failure of such a tactic will depend on Digby's own sense of self confidence.
bloody hell, something's wrong with the world.....I agree with tic

As I understand it, Digby has a contract with the Reds for next year but not the ARU. If he doesn't have a contract with the ARU, he can't play Super Rugby. If he signs a contract with the ARU, the contract with the Reds stands. Don't think it is any more complicated than that.
It'd be a shame if he left, but I think the quality of wingers in Australia has risen the past 18months anyway.. Looking ahead we have Speight, Folau, Tomane, JOC, Shipperly and Cummins.

Is Mafi not on that list? Mogg?
Surely some others....I want to say Eddie Stubbs, but will wait till he proves himself.

I will miss watching Diggers playing in Super Rugby.
I admit to watching every game we can (mrs snobs) as well. Every time he gets the ball you expect to see him do something spectacular and most times you do.
Good luck Diggers you will be missed by Au rugby.
May the FORCE be with you!
Wallabies winger Digby Ioane will leave the Queensland Reds and Australian rugby later this year after signing a massive two-year contract with French glamour club Stade Francais.
It's understood Ioane will reap almost $2.5 million but the deal will severely endanger his chances of playing in the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

$2.5 million is an awesome deal for an outside back, shame to lose him but hope he does well in France.

Anybody would take that pay check to stand on the wing, eat foi gras and bang the hottest women in France. Can I carry your luggage?
Dead set
you are luggage Piet
that 'ill do me
No kidding!! They pretty much dumped a truck full of cash in his front yard. All the best will in the world, knocking that back would have been a huge effort. Good luck to him and hope he goes well.
Be interesting to see whether it does cost him the RWC. Even assuming they make the final, the HC is done in May. If the ARU wanted, there would probably be a window for him to return. Would hope they wouldn't need him though.
I didn't know dollars could cure home sickness.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
Looks like Jono Lance now off to Tahs.
