Sigh
Brumbies 11
Waratahs 10
Reds 7
Rebels 2
Force 0
Here’s the 30-strong squad attending the Wallabies logistics camp this weekend in Sydney, which caused all the Quade hoo-hah.
It should be noted that this is not meant to be a rock-solid selection squad.
The first muster of 25 players who will go into Wallabies camp ahead of the Lions tour on 3 June 3 will be announced on Sunday, 19 May.
A further six players will be added as soon as Super Rugby breaks for the June Tests, with the final Qantas Wallabies squad of 31 for the British & Irish Lions series to be unveiled at Stockland Stadium on the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday, 11 June.
So the door isn’t shut yet for our boxing bungy brother (Cooper).
I’ve pasted the squad in the order it was published by the ARU. Note where James O’Connor’s name is pencilled in – at 10, seemingly to the inside of Berrick Barnes who could be a 10 or 12. Could Crowbar be finally getting his shot at his dream position?
Considering Pat McCabe has played only one game and is benched this weekend, it would seem he is still firmly in Deans’s plans.
Worthy call-ups include Brumby breakthroughs The Moggster, Tomane, Leali’ifano, big Fots and Scott Sio – the latter appearing to have nudged out Sekope Kepu. Another notable missing Tah is Drew Mitchell.
Jesse Mogg (Brumbies)
Israel Folau (NSW Waratahs)
Digby Ioane (Queensland Reds)
Joe Tomane (Brumbies)
Adam Ashley-Cooper (NSW Waratahs)
Ben Tapuai (Queensland Reds)
Pat McCabe (Brumbies)
Christian Leali’ifano (Brumbies)
Berrick Barnes (NSW Waratahs)
James O’Connor (Melbourne Rebels)
Nic White (Brumbies)
Will Genia (Queensland Reds)
Wycliff Palu (NSW Waratahs)
Fotu Auelua (Brumbies)
Michael Hooper (NSW Waratahs)
Liam Gill (Queensland Reds)
Dave Dennis (NSW Waratahs)
Scott Higginbotham (Melbourne Rebels)
Ben Mowen (Brumbies)
Rob Simmons (Queensland Reds)
James Horwill (Queensland Reds)
Kane Douglas (NSW Waratahs)
Sitaleki Timani (NSW Waratahs)
Dan Palmer (Brumbies)
James Slipper (Queensland Reds)
Ben Alexander (Brumbies)
Benn Robinson (NSW Waratahs)
Scott Sio (Brumbies)
Stephen Moore (Brumbies)
Tatafu Polota-Nau (NSW Waratahs)
I would have thought Alfie and Alcock at least.
At least our most successful side has the most players for once, though the tahs aren't that great either and they still have a third.
Hmmm all those tahs.
Palu, Dennis and Timani are baggage, TPN is guaranteed to kill himself within 20 minutes of the first match starting, all the backs are highly paid but underperforming (yes, even the usually reliable Ashley-Cooper) leaving only Hooper Robinson and Douglas as genuine picks.
Hooper is starting to suffer Tah stink and Robinson hasn't been up to his usual standard.
Congratulations Kane Douglas for Being the only Tah who has genuinely made the squad on his own merits.
Now, on to the Reds......

I know we give them a bit of shit, but in all seriousness I think they should look at the Tah count in that list. There's too much of a "past performance" reputation in there on those players. If that's a reason for selection in a provisional squad, then the whole force back-row (Brown, Hodgson, McCalman AND Alcock) should all be picked anyway. Berrick Barnes and Pat McCabe are in there and yet Matt Toomua and a stand-out Waratah, Bernard Foley aren't? Does that mean it's gonna be crash-ball with McCabe again?
Japan and the Pacific Islands for Aussie Super 9's!
Let's have one of these in WA! Click this link: Saitama Super Arena - New Perth Stadium?
I feel the same way as most here do about players who should have been given a go at the green and gold... But on the brighter side we don't loose any players to camps and hopefully it can secure us a few wins..
Yes This is a National comp with people being selected for a National team and all should have the chance of selection ...
Come on the force boys
This is our worst start to a season in 5 years. We have fewer potential wallabies in training than at any other time in our last 5 years. At what point do we start asking some questions about the coach? Has the honeymoon ended and what odds will the v- bookie offer that Foley will have fewer wins this year than last year?
Just having a look at the extended squad for Wallabies and noticed there is not much in the way of Force blokes in there? Am I reading wrong?
Hasta la vista Pam
Post it up for us Bronski. I can't be bothered researching. If Alfi Mafi isn't selected on the wing/fullback for the wallabies, I will be leading the sack Deans band wagon
Controversy corner
McCabe will play 12.......sadly
The Lions will have massive centres and rightly see an Australian weakness through the mid field.
Mccabe will be picked to tackle their crashballers. Mccabe is a very tough and tenacious player and he hits hard in defence. The bloke has an iron will and massive ticker. I just don't think he has the acceleration and ball handling skills to play 12.
No Mafi is disappointing. The bloke is a try scoring machine and runs as hard and breaks as many tackles as anybody in Australian rugby. He would look good outside Genia, Cooper and O'Connor and would make a lethal counter attack with Ioane and Mogg. Australian rugby would return to the days of the feared and lethal attacking backline.................but we'll never see it
Deans will stick with his plodders and play into the hands of the Lions with his no pass crash balls from pat plodder Mccabe
Controversy corner
My understanding is that no Force players were selected for 'logistical' reasons; namely that it's a long way to fly and we have a game against the Canes in NZ on Friday.
This group is not the actual 30-man squad for the tour - that will be announced on 1 June.
Proudly Western Australian; Proudly supporting Western Australian rugby
Our game today doesn't help this either.

Logistical reasons is a cop out
Wouldn't be too hard to organize a stop off in Sydney for the Force players whom the selectors might be looking at
Not that im arguing too much against the lack of selections from the Force given how they've been traveling
Sounds like the ARU is just giving the Waratahs players something to do this weekend
