Ecky, what was your take on the conversion, with the break and a home ground comms box they didn't really show what happened too well.
Was the ruling that JO'C started moving (with his stupid arm thing), which would beg the question why wasn't that the ruling for all the conversions?
Or did he take too long for the kick?
In either case, admittedly not being able to judge any call from the Ref to play on or whatever, it would seem that Stringer covered a lot of ground quicker than his little legs would allow?
Not saying the call or outcome was wrong, just confused as to what the actual ruling was.

ditto.
the ref was bursting for a pee, couldn't wait any longer
i think he ruled that JOC started his run up so the ball was fair game.
one of the drawbacks of his stupid "running man" technique that he uses to kick.
the other main one being that his first step causes his shoulders to roll forward and he has to correct the balance shift as he is finishing his run up. which i think is what causes some of his kicks to miss.
Although I watched the game on replay this morning, I actually missed that bit. Presumably it was "charged down", but I gather the charger actually took the ball off the tee?
As soon as the kicker starts his run up the opposng team can charge.
Rabbit does take a fkn long time to do his thing, but there is most certainly a point when he starts his run up. It doesn't surprise me that someone has finally got all the way to the ball before he kicks.
Thanks...I think...yeah, know all the technicalities (well most, some a bit fuzzy) just not sure which one was applicable in this instance.
If kicker started moving then the Ref wasn't consistent as he did the same action for all conversions.
Undertandable if too long as it took a fair while and being half time he possibly took extra, but the way Stringer acted and how far he had run (under the posts to 1m in from touch) then stop, then run to the tee, I don't think he is that quick...
Anyway, bit hard to judge for you if you haven't seen it...though that doesn't stop some Ref's![]()

The commentary suggested he took too long and had a call from the ref that Stringer must have heard.........was a bit strange. That was their take on it anyway

JAMES OConnor plans to talk to referees about his goal-kicking style following a bizarre charge-down incident against the Barbarians.
As O’Connor attempted to convert Lachie Turner’s try on the stroke of half-time, Barbarians halfback Peter Stringer raced through and picked up the ball after referee Romain Poite ruled O’Connor had moved to kick.
A flummoxed O’Connor could only laugh as Stringer ran to the sheds with the ball while he was still poised in his run-up position.
“Going forward we’ll probably [talk to referees] because it has happened to me before in Ireland,” O’Connor said.
Defenders are allowed to race off their line for attempted charge-downs as soon as the conversion kicker moves his foot off the ground in their run-up. O’Connor uses an odd up and down motion with his foot to steady himself, and that can create confusion in referees’ minds as to when he has started his run-up.
The five-eighth did adjust his start-up routine – described by Wallabies coach Robbie Deans as a “nervous twitch” - in the second half to record a perfect night with the boot with all kicked attempts.
“I do it all the time, my little up and down [with my foot] to get my centre posture, if my feet come off the ground that is considered a start … I’ll have a look at the replay, if that’s the case then it is a fair call,” O’Connor said.
“If your feet stay on the ground you’re sweet … I fixed it in the second half anyway.
“I don’t see it as a massive issue, I’ll tweak it in the off season.”
"Tweak it"? How about eradicate it like an adult, you look like a goose.

Didn't Rabbit nearly get a conversion charged down in the RWC? Can't remember which game it was, mind.
Quade looks like a goose burgs. JOC just looks stupid

JP Pietersen ran out at him in the quarter final against SA. Pietersen pulled out of the run when he realised he came off too soon but JOC missed it anyway. Horwill should have asked the ref for another shot at goal. In that quarter final it could have been the difference between winning and losing.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
Well you'd better stop and address it now rather than later.
The kicker must take the kick within one minute from the time the kicker has indicated an intention to kick. The intention to kick is signalled by the arrival of the kicking tee or sand, or the player makes a mark on the ground. The player must complete the kick within the minute even if the ball rolls over and has to be placed again.
The kick is disallowed if the kicker does not take the kick within the time allowed.
Which by the picking up of the ball by Stringer would indicate a charge down, not a time elapsed...?
In any case BIZARRE!
