While watch the reply of the weekend matches on fox last night, I couldn't help but to notice what I thought were a few forward passes during the last 10 minutes of the Crusaders v Highlanders. So I rewound and freeze framed through the sequences (hitting the pause button really quickly) and I am sure these instances were forward passes
70:38 - Forward pass to Dagg as he busts the line and dives over for a try
72:47 - Forwrad pass to Guildford as he breaks the line.
73:20 - Forward pass from SBW to Crockett
Wouldn't have changed the result, but it shouldn't be happening so often IMHO.

just note that due to initial velocity (ie player running forward) the ball can actually move forward (relative to the pitch), as long as it moves backwards relative to the passer...
pretty much the person has to throw it backwards... This tends to comeunstuck on long looping passes, which technically are legal, but move so far forwards that they are called forward...
The Crusaders do seem to be pushing the limits, i'll have a look tonight.
Those short passes can be legal if they are thrown flat/backwards at pace. Cooper is pretty good at it. But when it comes to offloads, its pretty hard to throw them at pace so if they are drifting forward something could be up.
they're called the "reverse forward pass" TIF
Chuck Norris has the greatest Poker-Face of all time. He won the 1983 World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoly card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game Uno.
I call them 'New Zealand Flat'. People tend to know what you mean by that!
Covers the rule but a wee bit basic as there are loads more possibilities.
Just happy to be here
I agree - watched most of the games over the weekend and there were alot of "flat" passes. You'd think it would be the touch judge picking these up as they're the best positioned.
Laugh and the world laughs with you.......
......cry and you'll weaken your beer
That has really cleared things up...thanks TEF![]()

Has a touch judge raised a flag this season so far?

One has to account for Parralax as well the rotation of the Earth in respect of Crusader and All Black passes.
6 to one...
Maybe we should change their title back?
The question still stands though. Have the assistant refs raised a flag for a law broken in play?

I think the side judges are asleep half/most of the time...Mitch was going ape S*** at the side ref last week for things that were missed....so don't rely on them...![]()
