Former Tahs boss signs on in France
Bret Harris | June 20, 2008
FORMER Waratahs coach Ewen McKenzie has finally agreed to terms with French club Stade Francais, while ex-Brumbies mentor Laurie Fisher is in the running for an assistant's role at Irish province Munster.
McKenzie began negotiating with Stade Francais around the time the Waratahs announced in April that his contract would not be renewed at the end of the Super 14 series.
When McKenzie guided the Waratahs into the Super 14 semi-finals he revealed he was having second thoughts about accepting Stade Francais' offer for family reasons.

I'll talk to Gaz if he calls: McKenzie

Former NSW Waratahs coach Ewen McKenzie says he'll gladly take a call from Mark Gasnier about joining him at champion French rugby club Stade Francais.
McKenzie, who has signed to coach the Paris-based club from next month, says he hasn't spoken to Australian Test rugby league centre Gasnier, who said recently he was considering a switching codes to play rugby in Europe.
"I'm not sure what his status is," McKenzie said.
"He's obviously a great player.
"I don't know. I've signed on the dotted line the other day. I'll start looking at the market.
"I haven't spoken to him about it though."
Asked about the possibility of Gasnier or fellow league star Sonny Bill Williams heading to Paris, McKenzie said: "If someone rings me up well so be it, but at this point in time I'm looking at rugby players."
McKenzie, who has secured a three-year deal with Stade Francais, says recruitment will be a major part of his new job and he has been surprised at the number of Australian players looking for a move overseas.
"Everyone's fair game now," he said.
"I now operate in an international market.
"When you coach overseas it's a bigger pool you can draw from. They have the opportunity to bring in international players so I've got to learn a whole bunch of new player managers.
"...It's amazing how many people ring up and suddenly want to live in Paris."

Former New South Wales Waratahs' coach Ewen McKenzie has been appointed coach at French club Stade Francais for the next three years.
Just a day before his 43rd birthday, McKenzie confirmed he would succeed Fabien Galthie at the Paris club after the current head coach announced he would be stepping down at the end of the season.
Several names had been linked to the position, including Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer and retired Stade player Pieter de Villiers, but McKenzie was eventually chosen, with the former Wallaby declaring he was looking forward to the opportunities coaching in Europe would bring.
