Spain reach new rankings high

Spain have breached the world's top 20 for the first time following two away victories on South American soil, 18-10 over Uruguay and 30-25 against Chile last week.

The two wins see them swap places with Uruguay in the official IRB World Rankings, the Teros falling back to 22nd, the position formerly occupied by the Spanish. Chile also fall one place in the weekly-updated list, to 24th.

Under Englishman Jed Glynn the Spanish national side has climbed steadily over the last two years, from a lowest position of 32 in February 2005 to this new high.

Inside the world's top 10, the weekend's international matches brought no change to positions. However Wales' hard-fought victory over higher-ranked Argentina did boost their rating by over a point to 76.99.

Argentina fell by the same amount to 81.05, although they do remain in their highest ever position of fifth, three ahead of the Welsh.
