I hope they don't check out this forum to get an idea of the most pressing issues Force fans have. The stadium wouldn't be the first on the list if this forum was anything to go by.

Congratulations Jenha; if your mentioning rectangular stadia you may want to bring it up in the context of Asian or Asean intergration: if Australia is to get serioius about interaction with Asian nations we need international standard rectangular stadia (push from the soccer angle as that actually has more clout) then angle in the international Asian nations that play rugby (either 15 many or 7's). Just a thought.

Have a great time and remember to have some fun in between hard work and learning.

    From Rugby WA Today!

To all Emirates Western Force members and supporters

RugbyWA put forward a strong case to the Stadia Taskforce for the development of a 35,000 seat rectangular stadium. And while the taskforce has recommended a two stadia policy, it is clear that neither it nor the State Government have an appetite at this time for a dedicated rectangular development with a 35,000 seat capacity.

Now that the WAFL has changed its tack and supports the multi-purpose stadium, we have to accept that that is the likely outcome.

Our job now is to ensure that the multi-purpose stadium’s rectangular configurations meet the needs of rugby.

There is no doubt the design of the multi-purpose stadium will have our supporters closer, and higher, than at Subiaco Oval. For a start, the retractable seating will have the closest spectator 15m from the action, rather than the 31m at Subiaco.

We will need to look at creative ways of managing crowds of 30,000-plus in a 60,000 seat stadium.

RugbyWA will also be working with the State Government and the Department of Sport and Recreation on the issues of management, scheduling, tenure and rental to ensure the multi-purpose stadium is financially viable for rugby. We have only recently received the financial assumptions underlying the taskforce’s conclusions and recommendations and this will take some time to work through.

    We’ll keep you posted.

Damn. I was under the impression that Rugby WA and others were ready to put up a big fight over this, that was what I was waiting for but apparently not.

I guess we have to be pragmatic about it now at this stage and support the 60k stadium and put our efforts into ensuring we het the best facilities possible out of it.

My main concern is the design of a stadium with moveable seating is going to be expensive and I can see that part of the design being binned as soon as the costs blow out in the detail design phase.

I'm a little more optomistic about them actually building the retractable seats, TEF. But more concerned about it's week to week functionality. From an engineers perspective, is it likely to be deployable and retractable overnight. Does anyone konw if there's such a system (24hr turnaround) in use anywhere?

The problem there isn't the time to do the seats, it's lifting the turf.

Well given the crappy stadium we've had to play at for the last 2 years (yes it was agreed to play there so I have stomached a not-fit-for-the-purpose-stadium) and god knows how long the Force will have to carry on playing there until they build this multi-purpose crappy stadium...if they do and the Force play there I'll be baby sitting the kids watching it on Fox and TQ1 can go if she wants to.

    I don't agree with a stadium that is not-fit-for-the-purpose.
