    From little players....

Just looking through an old online Australian Schools Rugby Union Newsletter...as you do ... and came across an interesting team photo.
I think it is of the 2001 Australian A Schools XV to play Samoa, doesn't really matter, they are all Under 17 anyway.
Goes to show that over time quite a few from these early career teams do end up making it to the big time.
The photo is too distorted to bother posting it here. The spelling is un-edited but can see a few they got wrong.

At the same time, at a reported expense of $300k per Tour, you could argue it isn't really that great a return on investment either...

Begs the question though; is any schoolboys team EVER going to better Mark Ellas Invincibles?

As an amazing a team as that would need to be anyway, unfortunately I think not shasta as the modern youth of Rugby is being guided from Schoolboy elite to Under 19 elite by the IRB, so often Schoolboy stars are cherry picked to be Under 19 Bench players.
This was actually flagged in the 2001 newsletter I was reading.
The one saviour of the Schoolboy system is I recall a suggestion, may even be in action, to combine the Under 19 and Under 21 World Championships as an Under 20 World Championship.
I would imagine this would renew the importance of the youngest National team again and see more players eligible again.
But to answer your question directly, I doubt it!

... and slightly off the subject, but still related, one of Mark Ella's Invincibles was Tony Melrose, whose little brother Brian is the coach of West Sydney Rams.

I'm 99% sure that the Coach of the middle team Stuart Meade of Cranbrook is now Headmaster of Hale as well.
