RugbyWA Chief Executive Peter O’Meara has expressed his disappointment at Channel Seven Perth’s decision to broadcast Saturday’s Bledisloe Cup match at 10.30pm (WST), four and a half hours after its kick-off.
The annual clash between the Australian Wallabies and the New Zealand All Blacks is one of the highlights of the rugby calendar and always a compelling spectacle, even more so in a Rugby World Cup year.
While Channel Seven viewers in Sydney and Brisbane will watch the game ‘live’, WA sports fans will have to wait until the conclusion of the Great Outdoors, Great Comedy Classics and the Saturday night movie.
Mr O’Meara said Channel Seven prided itself on its comprehensive and up-to-date sports coverage but, by broadcasting such an important game three hours after the final siren and well into Saturday night, the network was letting down local sports fans.
“I don’t know what it says about how seriously Seven takes it sport but it’s certainly disappointing for those West Australians who can’t afford Pay TV and want to watch a world-class match at a reasonable hour,” he said.
“We have been inundated by phone calls and emails from sports fans expressing their frustration. We could understand Seven delaying the broadcast if it clashed with an AFL match…but Great Comedy Classics?? It’s just not funny!”
He said RugbyWA had raised its concerns about scheduling before the start of the domestic Test series but no changes had been made.
“Next week, the Wallabies play the South African Springboks, one of the favourites for the Rugby World Cup, and Channel Seven Perth is planning to broadcast that game at an even later time,” O’Meara said.
“The popularity of the Emirates Western Force shows there is strong support for top-class rugby in this State and a recent independent survey indicates more than a third of WA’s population has at least an interest in rugby,” he said.
“I think it’s time Seven Perth caught up…for the sake of WA’s sports fans.”
The Fox Sports coverage of the match begins at 5pm (WST), an hour before kick-off.

good old pay tv!!
Chuck Norris has the greatest Poker-Face of all time. He won the 1983 World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoly card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game Uno.
RugbyWA aren't the only ones disappointed....
Dear Lord, if you give us back Johnny Cash, we'll give you Justin Bieber.
Seven may pride themselves on the coverage but they hardly do a proud job - apparently their Melbourne coverage two weeks ago went to an ad break with 3 minutes to go and the scores level and then straight to a movie, missing the drop goal and final result.

Channel Seven -- the station run by retarded chimpanzees. Get Foxtel and never watch another advert-filled commercial TV program run by backwater hayseeds ever again.
Wish it was that simple Rick.
Palmyra will be showing the match live on Foxtel on both its big screen monitors as well as on several TVs in its club rooms from 5.00 PM .
This follows the Palmyra- Kalamunda game so there should be a big crowd.
Bars open and food available. All supporters welcome.
I'm never going to watch Channel 7 again! The way they treat Rugby fans in Perth is disgusting.John O'neill needs to sort out the free to air mess!![]()
* blueandblack gets to the end of the far queue of disappointed people.
Thank God for my parents and their decision to subscribe to Foxtel![]()
I don't believe I have to wait till 10:40 to watch this match on 7! I hope they realise the error of their ways and get their shit together and change programming schedule by next week! Their home page says "We are Perth's favourite commercial TV station" - not for long....
Dear Lord, if you give us back Johnny Cash, we'll give you Justin Bieber.
I reckon QANTAS must be pretty dissapointed too....I believe they are releasing a great new ad tonight featuring our own Gits......
So instead of a showing at 6pm it goes on at 10.40pm
Bad Ch7 bad bad bad.
i thought they might have shown it live in melb at least there was a lot of interest here and alot written aout it in the papers and such.... channel 9 did it with the state of origin that was played here last yr... channel 7 suck balls, will be awesome when 10 get the rights. i hear they are planning to broadcast some super 14 on free to air aswell....
6.30 The Great Outdoors
7.30 Great Comedy Classics
8.35 Starsky & Hutch's Great Movie
10.40 Rugby Union
The ARU should have called it The Great Bledisloe Cup Outdoors Classic. Then we may have seen the game live.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
If you think that's bad, wait until next Saturday when the match vs SA will be shown at 11.25!!!!!!
CHEERLEADERS ROCK!!!
