I disagree with many of those disparaging Drop Goals, all the folk around me at JB's on Sat watched the yarppies carefully plan and move the ruck/maul into position for the first DG. Control of field position is a good thing and they got a reward.

The second one, simpler still. Wallabies place no pressure on the reciever, not a single chaser of the 'clearing' kick. If you give top players that much space you deserve to be punished. and we were.

great spirited game from nearly all players. We have a great defense, but I'm still waiting for Connoly to show an "attack" plan.

I think the best option is to reduce drop goals and penalty goals to 2 points (same as a conversion). Also, if you try a drop goal and it misses then the opposing team gets a scrum from the spot you took the kick. Right now if you miss the drop goal it usually results in the other team having a 22 restart so you get the ball back anyways, need to discourage them kicking it away in the first place.

Isn't one of the new rules that are being trialled require the defence to be further back from the last feet at the ruck? Won't this result in more drop goals as offense would have more time to set up and take the kick?

I have no problem with a team getting the ball back after a penalty but after a drop goal attempt could do with a change. Basically it isn't about whether they get the ball back or not, the IRB needs to make a decision on how they want the game to go forward from here. They've brought in bonus points to encourage teams to score tries, it seems that some teams still don't care, so they should take the next step and change the game rules a bit. I don't care that South Africa won the match using a drop goal, and I'm sure that Australia would have done the same. But when teams like England and France use it the whole game it makes the whole game boring.

Perhaps the rule could be no drop goals until the last 10 minutes.

If you take a drop goal and miss it, it's the oppositions quick tap at the 50. Easy.

The sad thing about this debate is that all of the suggestions are now being utilised in mungo rugby!!! 1 point for a drop goal, 2 points for a penalty, miss the kick & the defending team gets a tap at the 20m.
