Why isn't a revamp of Perry Lakes on the cards ??? Plenty of space - all it needs is a set of lights and some stands!!

Because the Town of Cambridge have had to give it to the State Government for re development because they couldn't get there own act together.

Ask our future Mayor of Cambridge Mr John Connell when you see him next, that is one of his main reasons for running this year.

Only downsides would be it is off the rail network for bulk transport and no entertainment district surrounding it.

look at the stadium in Canberra - in the middle of no-where near the AIS .. that seems to work pretty good!!!! As long as you provide plenty of car park space (which there is already) and buses it would work fine!

If the opportunity is there to have a dedicated or very close rail station to the ground then that would have to be prefferable though wouldn't it?
Imagine taking public transport from your joint to Perry Lakes, back to say Northbridge or Subiaco and then get back home each match!
    It would be a nightmare

At this stage a 22,000 seat stadium looks good - can always get a loan for another 10,000 seats - only another 10K times 10K= 10 million (RugbyWa could easily underwrite that) - it's the only way it will happen

yes the down side is no train right next door - the upside is that there is natural bush,a lake and reserve on almost three sides - hence you aren't going to be right next door to someones house! The upside is you will get minimal "not in my backyard" groups popping up!!

Think about this: We visited Canberra and found a bus to and from the stadium with no troubles and they were free, excellent service. This from people who had never been to a game there or used their transport systems before.

Why do we have to limit our thinking and position to "must have train" ?

Actually I did hear a whisper a while back that the government where considering developing Perry Lakes, but The Western Force and the State Government said it was clearly not on their agenda.

It needs some decent public transport infrastructure to be spent as well.

Interseting that Mr Chicken Treat has sold all his stores in WA for (it was front page this week, not sure if figure is right? please correct if wrong) some $18 million!
180 million dollars for stores throughout the country, he had to pay around 50 million dollars to creditors as well. Nick Tana also lost around 7 million dollars to get Perth Glory up and running, and without that we would still not have a rectangular stadium of any significance.

Town of Vincent owns Members Equity Stadium and they have onsold the managerial rights to Allia Holdings who are prepared to sell their managerial rights if someone buys them out (around 4-5 million dollars).

I would think that because trains move far more people quicker and more efficiently it is the preffered option.
Sure it can be done, much of the Olympics was done like that, but why set up an ongoing logistical hassle if there are options available that can use the existing infrastructre?
The busses may have been "free" but at some stage, somewhere, someone is paying for the fuel, wages etc etc that goes with the extra service.
I would suggest, in Perth, that would end up being the residents/taxpayers in this State.

    .
Agreed, as well as the lack of corresponding facilities near the sporting venues, no food outlets, restaurants pubs...a bit of a walk to Floreat Forum.

All these issues make it a nightmare as well as lack of alternative entries into Perry Lakes, that you have at Subiaco/MES.
