    Using the Bench

Under 19 tournament rules allows all squad members can be named as reserves, but only seven replacements can be used during the match.
This revolves around safety issues of not having to play players out of position and especially with the Front Row.
Considering that most elite matches now see at least one starting Prop return to the field already, effectively giving a Coach up to ten subs (plus the blood rule), should the IRB in their review be looking to extend the Under 19 bench rule to Senior Rugby?
That way returning Props are included in your seven substitutions (making it less likely to happen on lack of fitness etc) costing you the chance to bring on game breaker Backs and Backrowers.
Currently I feel it is a joke how much the "fat Prop" rule is exploited.
So vote on the three (yes, ONLY three!!!) options above.

oh Burgs I like rule they are testing in the under 15 womens comp in Western Swaziland, can't we have another option???

Would the "Tightening Up of Fat Props" require a lot of additional training or even re conditioning?

Seriously, at Super 14 and International level the last option applies for mine. However that does create this discontinuos adaption of rules so that as a young player goes through the ranks, the rules are constantly changing. It would be tough being the whistle blower at a U19s then heading off to do the local first grade with a new set of rules. The more consistancy the better IMHO.

U19 rules would serve the senior game well and should be adopted ASAP. The downside (i am sure there are others) is of course that this rule will advantage those teams with larger and deeper squads, but that is a price I would accept to negate the current abuse.

For me the under 19 rule seems like the way to go.
