    RWC repechage fixtures confirmed

    17 Jan 2007

The International Rugby Board (IRB) has today confirmed the dates, venues and kick off times for the Rugby World Cup 2007 Repechage 1 matches between Morocco and Portugal and also details for the Repechage 2 qualification match between Korea and Tonga.

On January 20 Morocco will host Portugal in Casablanca at Stade du COC in the first of back to back Repechage 1 fixtures. Kick off is at 1pm local time. The second leg in Portugal on January 27 will be played at Lisbon’s Estadio Universitario de Lisboa and will kick off at 3pm local time.

The winner on aggregate will progress to face Uruguay home and away for the right to qualify for Rugby World Cup 2007 as Repechage 1 to join New Zealand, Scotland, Italy and Romania in Pool C.

The Repechage 2 qualifying match between Tonga and Korea will be played in Auckland, New Zealand on February 10 at a yet to be confirmed venue. The winner of the match will qualify directly for Rugby World Cup 2007 and will join England, South Africa, Samoa and USA in pool A.

The qualifying process for Rugby World Cup 2007 started in September 2004 when Andorra hosted Norway. By the time Uruguay plays Morocco or Portugal in the final Repechage match 86 teams will have taken part and 192 matches will have been played.

Truth is I think they rate him so highly that if he can walk then they will play him, personally I think its too late in the season for him to recover any sort of form and fitness. My view is that they need to settle on a 10 during the upcoming 6Ns, and allow some confidence to build regardless of results. My choice would be Shane Geraghty from London Irish... but hey it's not for us to intrude in their grief now is it?

do you think that the world rankings etc.. could have something to do with the groups like New Zealand having maybe two top sides (albeit not quite to the code that we hold dear espesically dear richie mc craw ) and the currant lack of form of the poms ( Wilks has no hope of getting form back - don't think he has played a game since the world cup final ) - maybe the Kiwis have like an easy time in the groups and the others have to work for their place

I'm pretty sure how it works is that the first spots in the Pools are from finishing place in the previous WC rather than Rankings ie England as Winner go Group A #1, Australia Runner Up Group B #1. NZ beat France in the Play Off, therefore C&D #1's. Not 100% on how the rest of the Pool positions are determined though.
