I remember way back when our state baseball team (Perth Heat one year, Western Heelers the next) had to play Queensland in the baseball finals. We were the home team and both games were played..in Brisbane.

We won both times, and both times the team administratively collapsed after the game.

Burgs, its about the political reality and looking at getting facilities that are viable in the long term.

Sure I would love a 60,000 Rugby Stadium.

But if we had year after year of Australia v Fiji?

When would we ever see it full?

Its about looking to get funding that we can seek and looking at realistic options.

    Ever heard of Catch-22 Egan?
While we have substandard facilities we will get the scraps from the table from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
The political reality is that we have leaders on both sides of the house without vision or passion to make the right decision instead of the political compromise.
By the way, apart from tongue in cheek, I have never said 60k, but I do believe that 45-50k is quite realistic for a State with a professional Provincial team, that consistently sells out Subiaco for the better International fixtures, to grow in to.
As I have previously alluded to, is it such a crime if all the Force Members are able to sit along the sidelines and then open up the ends for the bigger matches?
The surest way to prove that Perth can only generate a small crowd is to have a small stadium and all that willl really prove is that the wrong decision was made back in 2007-08 or whenever the hell it is they finally settle on their inevitable limp wristed compromise.

However Stadia trends worldwide and in Australia.

Is to make stadia more profit making, more viable and more intimate.

Its in the EPL, its in many league's of the world. You are never going to have a stadium that caters adequately for demand or how many could get into a stadium...look at Twickenham, Millenium Stadium, Jade Stadium...for big internationals they could have 100,000 seat stadiums.

But they don't. It's not really just a WA thing, its a world wide aspect of demand for seats in stadiums never able to satisfy the capacity.

It is about making a viable solution that remains economical and caters for most of your audience.

A 35,000 seat facility does this at the moment.

It would have a chance of getting to 40-45,000 if they chose to redevelop for Football World Cup bid...

When you understand the current trends, you look at it in a different way

I agree that compromise is the political and economic reality of the situation but I don't beleive it is in our interest to bend over like good boys and take it.

"When you understand the current trends, you look at it in a different way."

Now you fall on your own sword by coming out with a condescending and dismissive statement like that, let the politicians do that mate, you stick to reporting like a good boy.

There was an article in yesterdays paper quoting Flowers as saying if we had a 60,000 seater, he'd send a Bledisloe and a few years of big lead up games our way... Found it - will Post up in Rugby forum...

at the moment! What about in a years time? then what! 35, 000 does not nearly meet the demand of an international fixture in Perth!

Does anyone have more info on Packer wanting to build a sporting complex next to Burswood with a world class rugby stadium? If the guy is willing to spend the money...for shit sake (excuse language- it is really needed) let the guy do it! The government can stop prancing around like little ballet dancers and get off their ass and make it happen!

Was in the Sundy Times on the weekend, has got support but needs to reach the Commissions table first to be considered or some such.
Have chucked the paper out now but someone else may still have it, page three from memory.

Judging by the paper, the Packer bid at Burswood seems to maintain a level of appeal.

    Now...here's the burning question..........

Would the traffic be more of a nightmare at either Subiaco Oval or Burswood??

3 exit points here, graham farmer, great eastern and also orrong rd, probably better than elsewhere as all roads lead to free flowing traffic areas...

    Fair ponut FR.
I have concerns about free flowing traffic along Gt Eastern Hwy in both directions though!
I think it would be a nightmare along that stretch and could envisige long delays.
Remember all the Casino and general traffic that would also be out on the roads on a Friday night!

To me that's why they need to have really good rail access wherever it goes, to encourage the majority to train it in rather than fighting for carparking.
I would have pretty limited parking and make people park in the city near Central or at least a station away. It is free rail and bus transport after all.
Park without stress and get dropped at the door, far easier than walking 3kms from the nearest bit of illegal verge after two hours of ever expanding circles from the ground

I still think we need to have some reasonable parking wherever the stadium will be finally built Burgs.
