Post Strong Player Interest in WA’s New National Competition Side

Player approval of the New National Competition (NNC) has again been shown, with 114 players from across Australia nominating to play for the soon to be named Perth team.

The NNC, which kicks off in August 2007, will see eight teams compete in its inaugural year - three teams from NSW, two Queensland teams and one team each from the ACT, WA and Victoria.

WA clubs have provided almost half of the nominees for the Perth team, including nine from Nedlands, eight from Palmyra, six from Rockingham and five from reigning Premiers Wests Subiaco.

There are also several eastern seaboard players who have nominated to play exclusively for the Perth side.

RugbyWA chief executive Peter O’Meara said the interest in the Perth side was indicative of the continued development of rugby in the State.

“It’s a great opportunity for aspiring players to try their hand at the professional level,” O’Meara said.

Isn't that a really fantastic endorsement for Western Australian Rugby, the Western Force and I might add, John Mitchell!!?
You would assume that 99% of WA applicants would want to be home based but to see the exclusive interest from Interstate is, to me, a real statement and unthinkable even 12 months ago.
I am assuming that the "soon to be named" means that not only by name but by association there will be an arms length between the team and the Force?
I further assume that means it will be a RugbyWA run side?
    Anyone have info on this?

Geez - you're starting to show you age. One of the first bands I saw in Perth was V-Capri at the tender age of 15 at the Nookie

I like the sound of the Western War Pandas. Sillyness aside though, I think the Western Wildfire would be apt. The speed and spread of Western rugby is reminiscent of a wildfire.

You could even throw the force colours into that on a jersey, with splashes of red for effect.... Blue for sky, black for smoke, and yellow and red for flames, what a mental picture i am forming

yes they did - then halted it due to expense...

It is great news re: Rugby, my opinion is we've always had this talent - it's just never had this (local) publicity before!!
