Tsk, tsk, out of order Beaver. What you hear at school should stay at school. Mind you, unless you hacked into your headmaster's computer, he is even more out if order by allowing what should be confidential school business to be heard by ears that shouldn't be hearing it.

Stay with this site Beav, if nothing else you'll be taught ethics, a subject that you may not learn at school.

Jess, i think your missing a couple of little facts.

1.He didn't make the first 15 at Scotch.

Beaver, I think you may be the one "missing some facts" mate.
Welborn was in the 1st XV for two years, the second as Vice Captain, and was a very good player, if a little "soft" in the tough stuff. He certainly made up for that in later years.
Not only did I have a brother playing alongside him in those years, I mentioned earlier that I actually watched him play in those years.
I seem to recall him making at least one Open Schoolboys State team in that period too though I may be wrong there.
While he was not the best player of his year group he certainly had ability and deserved his spot as a senior player.
I have no way of knowing if your enrolement story has any credability however, if you believe half of what you hear around the Scotch courtyards you will be a long way in front.
As for ragging on an Old Boy, well you lose major cred with me for that sorry mate, that's just not on.

While i respect that everyone is entitled to express their opinion i felt his comments were unneccessary and quite frankly a little rude and in bad nature. Poor form matty. Hope in the future you will check your facts and not say anything to deliberately insight a negative response to someone who is a genuinely nice bloke. We don't need that here at TWF.

"No, on the contrary ...".

"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, even though you're not certain it's true?".

The man shrugged, a little embarrassed. Socrates continued." You may still pass the test though, because there is a third filter - the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my student going to be useful to me?"

"No, not really..."

"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even Useful, why tell it to me at all?"

The man was defeated and ashamed. This is the reason Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.

I've just wielded my big red marker pen and moved all the offtopic posts form Jess's "When I met John... " thread and moved them here. Doesn't it read much nicer now?

I'll remove this thread altogther in a day or two....
