Well, cause he's an Aussie his mates can add a y onto the end, so the pronunciation would be kind of like the US State of Iowa followed by when you do a u-turn ie uey.

Ioane grew up in Melbourne, Victoria, representing the state at both league and rugby at schoolboy level.

Digby Ioane went to high school in QLD... he attended St Joseph's Gregory Terrace in Brisbane, where he represented QLD, not Melbourne. The coach for my rugby union team played flyhalf when he was winger for the First XV.

Also, as I mentioned back during the season, Digby has one of those Islander surnames that because everyone pronounces incorrectly it has become the accepted way.
In Australia it tends to be pronounced "Eye-Own-EE" however, a Fijian informed me that the Kiwi Commentators are (for once) correct in their pronunciation as "You-Are-Knee".
Crazy isn't it, a Kiwi actually saying something correctly!
