Carlo Tizzano set for Wallabies debut against South Africa
Wallabies say new law variations announced for The Rugby Championship will play right into their hands as they hand debut to Force back-rower.
The Western Force backrower is tipped to be named in the Wallabies No. 7 jersey for Saturday’s clash against the South Africans in Brisbane, following the sidelining of Fraser McReight due to injury.
Tizzano, a 24-year-old Perth product, is understood to have pipped Tom Hooper and Luke Reimer for the key open side flanker role.
Ben Donaldson is set to retain the crucial five-eighth role ahead of Noah Lolesio.
Donaldson, who had a mixed performance in the previous Test against Georgia, is tipped to partner Jake Gordon in the halves at Suncorp Stadium.

Springboks name young gun Feinberg-Mngomezulu to start in first Wallabies Test

South Africa have handed a first Test start to flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu in their Rugby Championship opener against Australia in Brisbane on Saturday, while No.8 Elrigh Louw has been selected ahead of Kwagga Smith.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu, 22, who can cover centre and fullback, has been given the nod ahead of two-time World Cup winner Handre Pollard in a major vote of confidence from coach Rassie Erasmus.
"Sacha has made a notable impact off the bench in all four Tests he has played so far, and he's slotted into the system with ease, so we are excited to see what dynamic he adds to the team as a starter," Erasmus said.
"His goal-kicking has also been impressive and we know that against teams like Australia, New Zealand and Argentina the margins are very small, so every point will count."
Louw, who came on in last month's 64-21 win over Portugal, will also make a first Test start and add to his four caps.
"We're also keen to see what Elrigh brings to the game, given his consistently strong performances for the Bulls in the last few seasons and off the bench against Portugal," Erasmus said.
"With Pieter-Steph (du Toit) and Siya (Kolisi) alongside him, he'll have good guidance to play to his strengths and do what he does best."
It is otherwise a familiar looking Springbok side with Willie le Roux at fullback and the dynamic duo of Cheslin Kolbe and Kurt-Lee Arendse on the wings.
Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriel are the centre pairing, with the experienced Cobus Reinach at scrumhalf alongside Feinberg-Mngomezulu.
The second row features Eben Etzebeth and RG Snyman, though the latter will be monitored through the week after picking up a injury in training. Hooker Bongi Mbonambi has props Frans Malherbe and Ox Nche either side of him.
The Springboks have lost 11 of their last 12 Tests in Brisbane, but Erasmus says they go into this game with confidence.
"This is a new year and new campaign, and a lot has changed for both teams in the last few years, so while we are mindful of that statistic it won't affect how we approach this match," he said.
"Just as winning the Rugby World Cup is history now, so is that statistic. If we stick to our structures and capitalise on our chances, hopefully we'll work ourselves into a good position to get the desired result."

Wallabies achieve surprising 11-year first ahead of huge Springboks home clash
Suncorp Stadium has officially sold out for the Wallabies’ opening game of the Rugby Championship against the Springboks, in a much-welcomed boost for the game in Australia.
The clash against South Africa is the first time Suncorp Stadium, which also hosts Super Rugby outfit Queensland Reds, has sold out for a rugby union match since 2013; with all 52,500 seats expected to be filled on Saturday.

It is also set to be the biggest crowd for a Wallabies home game since their clash against South Africa at Accor Stadium, Sydney in 2006.
Commenting on the news, Rugby Australia CEO, Phil Waugh, said: “This year we have seen Brisbane once again throw their support behind the Wallabies. I think the response to this match shows that Australians and Queenslanders are right behind this Wallabies squad.”
“We are still building under Joe [Schmidt], and we have started the season reasonably well against Wales and Georgia, however, the two-time defending Rugby World Cup Champions are a new and exciting challenge.”
“I am sure that a 50,000-strong Gold Army will play a huge role in lifting the Wallabies in Brisbane.”
Queensland Tourism and Sport Minister, Michael Healy, added: “It’s more than ten years since Suncorp has sold-out for a Wallabies Test match, I think we can expect a passionate crowd.

“Big international Rugby Tests like this boost our local economy and showcase Brisbane’s capacity to host world-class sporting events.
The sell-out comes off the back of impressive attendances during the mid-year internationals in Australia. 35,945 (45,500 capacity) fans packed out the Allianz Stadium for the opening game against Wales, with Test Two at AAMI Park also drawing in a decent attendance of 21,932 (30,050 capacity).
Rugby union in Australia has been struggling for some time now, but this is some much-needed positive news for the game down under.
South Africa look to overcome torrid Suncorp record
If South Africa come away from the game with a victory, they will have ended a torrid run of results at Suncorp Stadium.
The Springboks have lost their last four meetings with the Wallabies in Brisbane with their solitary win over Australia at the venue coming in 2013. The Boks did defeat Samoa at the ground during the 2003 World Cup. But South Africa have lost the other 11 Tests against the Wallabies at the ground.
Australia also hold the advantage over South Africa when on home soil. The Wallabies have beaten the Springboks in four of their past five meetings in Australia.

The actual most recent biggest home crowd for the Wallabies was in fact at Optus Stadium in Perth in 2019 with 61,241 in attendance.

Western Force flanker Carlo Tizzano has been named to make his debut for the Wallabies as coach Joe Schmidt confirmed his side to face the Springboks on August 10.
Tizzano continues an incredible 2024 after returning to the Force midway through 2023.
Tickets for the 2024 Wallabies home Test season are available here.
He starts at openside flanker at Suncorp Stadium in place of Fraser McReight (finger) alongside Rob Valetini and Harry Wilson.
Fellow flanker Luke Reimer is also in line for a debut, named in the reserves.
Schmidt has brought Matt Faessler back into the starting front-row, with Allan Alaalatoa retaining the captaincy alongside Isaac Kailea.
Lukhan Salakaia-Loto partners Nick Frost in the second row after Frost’s strong performance in the win over Georgia.
Jake Gordon and Noah Lolesio return to the halves after starting in the pair of wins over Wales.
Filipo Daugunu retains his spot on the wing after serving his two-match suspension in club Rugby whilst Andrew Kellaway returns on the other wing.
Reimer is joined in the reserves by returning Reds flyhalf Tom Lynagh, set to play his first Test in Brisbane.
He is one of four Reds on the bench including Zane Nonggorr, Tate McDermott and Josh Nasser, with Jeremy Williams and Dylan Pietsch rounding out the 23.
Taniela Tupou was not named in the squad for personal reasons following the passing of his father earlier in the week.
“There’s a mix of continuity and freshness in the squad and the players have worked with good enthusiasm during the week, but we know there’s still plenty to work on,” Schmidt said in a statement.
“We’re conscious of the size of the challenge and the size of our opponents but there’s a keenness in the player group to take a step forward.”

Stoked for Carlo, and happy to see Williams again in the frame off the bench.
Dissapointed for Donaldson but to be fair he did not really take his chance against Georgia, but I think he will get another shot soon enough as the ten slot is not yet cast in concrete.

I am so excited for Carlo! how good is that. Missing out on the who cares tests to be thrown into the typically massive Saffa's forwards. How good is that! Talk about a baptism of fire! Cannot wait to see how he goes.
Unfortunate for Donno, but his performance against a tier 2 was not up to par, even though i think he is better than noah in general, he just didnt put it together.
Williams getting another test is amazing too!
