    Rugby Australia Sponsors

    Harvey Norman pulls up stumps.

Harvey Norman has ended its multimillion-dollar sponsorship deal with Rugby Australia but denies it is a reaction to the ousting of former chairman Hamish McLennan.

The retail giant on Thursday confirmed it would not renew its sponsorship with RA next year after holding Super Rugby naming rights since 2021.

McLennan resigned as RA chairman on Sunday night after losing the support of Super Rugby clubs around the country.

Look at what the boneheads have done," McLennan told The Sydney Morning Herald after the sponsorship blow.

    "They are arrogant and dopey."

Wallabies great Daniel Herbert has replaced McLennan as chairman.

Harvey Norman chairman Gerry Harvey told the Herald that his decision was not a reaction to McLennan's demise.

"No, no, no, no. It's just the sport itself. So we do that for a while then move on to the next one," Harvey said.

"And you know, at some stage – like we're doing basketball at the moment, we've never done that before - at some stage, we'll drop off that and go back and do something else.

Pretty much every time Hamish has spoken of late I'm thinking "Look in the mirror mate, you're describing yourself!"

If the Harvey Norman departure is just "something they do" then they are either a pretty dodgy sponsor to negotiate with, or RA already knew of the potential exit.

I would seriously be banging on Gina's door.
With the background of her reciprocated outright disapproval of and competition with Twiggy, plus becoming increasingly out of favour with her current sporting sponsorships, it may be an ideal time.

That may be true, but she's proven to be capable of pulling sponsorship from a sport in a huff when she's called out about her behaviour.

Was it her behavior or ancient comments made by her father Lang that caused the riff

Agreed. It is arrogant and dopey to call someone else arrogant and dopey when you've just overseen the most embarrassing RWC performance in our history.

We tried reaching out to Gina in 2016 and again in 2017. Apparently she's not in favour of Collision sports.

Noted, but she is in favour of "one-upping" Twiggy, so that position may have changed by now (given his involvement since 2017), particularly with the rise of the Women's side of the Code.

It would be great for Australian rugby if Gina bought the Rebels and a few other egotistical millionaires bought the rest. Unfortunately if something like that happened over here I think they would be more likely to go for league.

That's one of the reasons that she hasn't yet sponsored hockey, even though it is a gender-balanced sport in terms of participation, & one that Australia is good at, across both men & women. Plus she could have got one up on Twiggy there too if she wanted to, by going over the top of FMG.

However she believes it to be a "collision" sport, due to the involvement of hockey sticks.
