If my memory serves me correctly it was Ollies mom that was behind or one of the people leading the rally to get Perth the Super rugby licence way back when our journey first started, wouldn't it be a Hollywood story if somehow Ollie managed to snare a test cap.

The only part of the game I've seen is where Tupou gets knocked into next year.

No way does he play this week.

Yeah I'm pretty sure you're right. Been watching a bit of the London Irish Force and Hoskins is playing strongly from the bench. He did again when Irish came back from 20-3 down in the 2nd half to draw with 2nd placed Saracens, who were missing about 5 internationals. The exiles were down one but also missing Curtis Rona & Adam Coleman. Wouldn't mind seeing them all back here. I can dream.

Adam played against saracens but was red carded for a high shot in the first half.

Hopefully Ollie gets called into Tupou's spot, because I don't think I could stomach another episode of Tom Robertson being set up to fail when Slipper and Bell were between ordinary and shite at loosehead

I don’t think most of these guys (Colby Faingaa, Hoskins, Paiaua, Beale etc) would have got a look in if it wasn’t for Covid and issues bringing players from Aus but good on them and grab the opportunity with both hands.

Confirmed: Ollie Hoskins in Wallaby Camp.

Is this the making of a potentially great story.

Congrats to Ollie and the family.

So Eddy Jones has had a dummy spit and sacked John Mitchell. For going to watch his son, a test centurion, bat for Middlesex - on his day off!! FFS.
The Angry Ant has replaced Mitchell with Anthony Siebold. Hope he brings England the same level of success he took to the Bronx.

Not the Seibold appointment. Which was the first I read of the dummy spit part. I think Mitchell is already on another assistant job in the Premiership. But it doesn't change anything;I still wish Eddy and Anthony all the success they both enjoyed coaching in Queensland. Last and last.

He's the attack coach at Wasps, but was supposed to remain with the England set-up until after this block of internationals.

According to G Rob in the SMH we may see Tom and Ollie on the bench.

"Australia’s hopes of a Twickenham boilover have been dealt a major blow with two key front row weapons all but ruled out of Saturday’s (Sunday AEDT) Test.

Starting tight-head Allan Alaalatoa and bench weapon Taniela Tupou look set to miss the Wallabies’ blockbuster clash with England after suffering head knocks against Scotland.

Wallabies need to improve ahead of crunch clash with England

Wallabies head coach Dave Rennie admits his side needs to improve ahead of the clash against England next week while skipper Michael Hooper believes there’s still plenty of fire in the belly despite the loss to Scotland.

They are required to observe head injury return to play protocols and will be given every day possible to recover, but the Wallabies have been forced to make contingency plans.

If both are ruled out it leaves Australia without a single specialist tight-head in the squad, a disaster heading into a Test against a formidable English pack.

It has already forced the call up of former Force prop Ollie Hoskins, who plays with London Irish in the English Premiership and has not been sighted in the Australian system since 2016.

Hoskins went into camp on Monday, but the Wallabies are more likely to look to veteran prop James Slipper to move to the tight-head side of the scrum. Angus Bell could start at loose-head, with Tom Robertson joining Hoskins on the bench.

James Slipper (centre) could be forced to start out of position at tight-head prop if the worst comes to pass in

Slipper, a 112-Test veteran, considers himself a loose-head, but has filled in where necessary at Test and club level. He played at tight-head for the Brumbies this year and was used as front row cover under former Wallabies coach Robbie Deans eight years ago.

Tupou was concussed in Australia’s 15-13 loss to Scotland on Sunday and did not return to the field after a head injury assessment. Alaalatoa was also concussed but played out the match after passing his tests.

Hoskins, 28, could be in line for a fairytale Test debut off the bench five years after leaving Australia to forge a career in Europe. He is London Irish’s most capped current player with 123 appearances in the Premiership.

Taniela Tupou is expected to be ruled out of the game against England.

“It’s pretty wild – it’s hard to put into words how I feel,” he told his club. “It’s surreal. It’s something that I thought was off the table for me when I moved over here and set up my life here. They’ve obviously recently changed the [eligibility] laws, so when I got that phone call last night, it was an incredible moment.

“Obviously nothing is guaranteed in terms of playing time, but just to receive the call-up and be considered is a huge privilege, and confirmation that I’m on the right path and doing the right things.

“I’m just going to lap up the experience and hopefully come back a better man and a better player.”

The Wallabies were also likely to lose starting winger Jordan Petaia after the Queenslander left Murrayfield with a hamstring injury, leaving Rennie down eight players from the match-day line-up responsible for the Wallabies’ five-Test winning streak last month.

This brings back memories of 2004:

Perth wins new Super 14s rugby team
    Friday, 10 December 2004

    10/12/04

Sport and Recreation Minister Bob Kucera today congratulated all Western Australians for their massive support, which had swung the State’s bid for Perth to host a rugby Super 14s team.

Mr Kucera said the decision by Australian Rugby Union (ARU) came as a result of the passion and commitment of Western Australian rugby lovers and was a triumph for community driven sport.

He paid tribute to Rugby WA for its well-planned and professional bid against Melbourne, which until now appeared to have a mortgage on major sporting events.

“The successful bid was a co-ordinated team effort beginning with Rugby WA, extending through the corporate sector with the rugby fans putting the icing on the cake,” the Minister said.

“There is no doubt that the extraordinary support of thousands of family-based rugby fans who rallied at Subiaco Oval - driven by rugby mums Irma Cooper and Jennifer Hoskins - sent a powerful message to the Australian Rugby Union that could not be matched by Melbourne and simply could not be ignored.

“Our bid would not have been successful had we not had the tremendous support of the Western Australian media. Its enthusiasm gave the ARU an insight into how much support the team will receive here.

“If our new team can combine as well on the playing field as those who put this bid together and those who supported the bid, then it will become a formidable combination in a very short time. It really has been a team effort to triumph over Melbourne.

“This was a bid that deserved the strongest support possible from the State Government and from Premier Geoff Gallop down, we were delighted to give that support.

“The long term benefits of hosting this team, both economically and from a sports development perspective, will be significant for WA.

“I feel sure that I can say on behalf of Western Australian sports lovers that the faith the ARU has in our ability to field a strong and viable team will be more than justified over the years.”

Nick Taylor now reporting in The West:

Hoskins gets shock call-up to Wallabies squad for clash with England

Former Western Force front-rower Ollie Hoskins has been drafted into the Wallabies squad as they prepare to face England in Sunday’s clash at Twickenham.

Hoskins, who went to Scotch College and played for Cottesloe in the RugbyWA competition, has been called into the spring tour squad as cover for injured star Taniela Tupou.

The tighthead, who now plays for London Irish, is an Australian under-20 representative and played 26 games for the Force from 2014-16.

Hoskins, 28, has made 123 appearances for the Exiles and was brought in by Australian coach Dave Rennie after Tupou suffered a head clash in Sunday’s 15-13 loss to Scotland in Edinburgh.

Tupou failed a HIA during the match and while he has not been officially ruled out of the England Test is unlikely to play.

Hoskins, whose brother Tobias is Cottesloe’s Premier Grade winning captain, said: “It’s pretty wild - it’s hard to put into words how I feel to be honest,”

He told the London Irish website: “It’s surreal - it’s something that I thought was off the table for me when I moved over here and set-up my life here.

“They’ve obviously recently changed the laws - so when I got that phone call last night, it was an incredible moment.

“Obviously nothing is guaranteed in terms of playing time, but just to receive the call-up and be considered is a huge privilege and confirmation that I’m on the right path and doing the right things.

“I’m just going to lap up the experience and hopefully come back a better man and a better player.”

The Hoskins’ brothers mum Jennifer and friend Irma Cooper were known as the “scrum mums” who organised the 2004 public rally at Subiaco Oval where 5000 fans spelt out “Super 14 For Perth” to help tip the battle against Melbourne for a side in Perth.
