Perth could be in for a massive international rugby bonanza next month.
Talks are underway about bringing a Rugby Championship double-header to Optus Stadium next month, two weeks after Australia play New Zealand in the Bledisloe Cup clash.
Under plans being discussed the Wallabies would play South Africa while New Zealand would face Argentina in a massive day of rugby on either 11 or 12 September.

Someone rightly pointed out to me a little earlier that the local Rugby Grand Finals are that weekend so I hope that's taken into account.

The ultimate "up yours" that RugbyWA could and should extend to Rugby Australia would be to keep the finals on the existing dates and encourage all rugby supporters to attend and support local rugby. Rugby Australia sure as hell doesn't.

It's not as if any WA players will be playing for the Wallabies, even though the worst performing Rugby State, NSW, will have at least 8 representatives in the national team.

This whole closing boarders or lock downs or not has only gone to prove that the system we have here in Australia is flawed!
We should never have got to this state. We are a BIG country but we are acting like a some petty fiefdoms!
I am rabidly WA supportive but feel that this whole bickering “we’re better than you “ is pathetic!
WA will get hit, as sure as eggs! And then what’s going to happen if everyone closes the door on WA !
Get theVac and let’s get our country back together!
    Over and out!

The overuse of exclamation marks is symptomatic of an enfeebled mind!!

But in your defence, living in NSW can do that to you ....

Maybe having lived in places apart from WA has widened my mind!

Thanks for reminding me to correct my location.

People have different priorities. NSW prioritised the economy over COVID zero. They got it wrong. It was arrogant given what we already knew about Delta and the current state of vaccination, and will ultimately hurt them more economically. It's not a "we are better than you" issue. It is a learn from your mistakes issue and support the team. We can all flourish if we work together and make tough decisions collectively. What's done is done, but it needs to be recognised as the wrong call and learned from.

Sorry SNOB, but I can't disagree with you more. Lockdowns and closing borders goes to show how well the system works for those who choose to use it. If someone is sick, keep them away from those who aren't to stop the spread- it is common sense. Limiting the vectors of movement/transmission works. I will wager millions that most of Europe wishes they had closed their borders sooner.

That's all correct James. Added to the operational failures, I think the biggest failure has been the messaging form the NSW govt. They continually downplayed the danger and so the people took a long time to take restrictions seriously.

Whether they have been lucky to dodge a few bullets or not, McGowan & Cook emphasised the danger from day 1 and the public responded.

I don't disagree with the sentiment, but do think you've got your premise wrong. They are persistently not learning, probably because they are being told they are getting it right. Minus the partial lockdowns, Sydney at the moment is exactly what living with the virus will look like when once the government hits their magic vaccination number. Although that will be Australia wide, not just bits of one city.
