    RugbyWA

The 22 man RugbyWA District Selection squad has been named for the game against WA Country on Saturday 9 September at Rugby Park, Perry Lakes.

The squad is made up of players from six district clubs, with Curtin providing five members as well as coach Matt Wakeling. District clubs provide teams for Third Grade and lower in the Home Building Society Competition.

The annual clash between the District Selection (formerly the A Grade Selection) and WA Country is becoming a highlight of the rugby calendar for the two combatants. The 2005 game was a high standard thriller, with the A Grade side finishing victorious.

The game will kick off at 3.00pm. WA Country are expected to name their side in the coming days.

The RugbyWA District Selection squad is:
Stefan Fraser, Daniel Jamieson, Glen Stone, David Dempsey (ARKS),
Shane Stewart, Matt Pover, Jayden Priest (Bunbury),
Jon MacKie, Martin Slabber, Leroy McBride, Michael Mashanyari, Mark Daniel (Curtin),
Steve Kerr, Lachlan Wood, John Taylor, Ruan De Plessis (Joondalup),
Steven Quinlan, Henry Elly, Damien Harris, Adrian Battley (Mandurah),
Chris Chapman, Jon Caufield (Southern Lions).

Yeah, they all came to to watch Wallabies V South Africa but the Country "hoodies" they were wearing after the game had a big blue and yellow bird logo on the back and they all looked like Eagles supporters! I think they told me Country lost in a close one. Handed out a few TWF cards to them as well.

    Weezled this out of RugbyWA:

The annual WA Country clash with the RugbyWA District Selection XV was yet again a tightly contested encounter, with the District team coming out victors 24-17. The match proved to be an arm wrestle from the start, with neither team scoring a point until late in the first half. This deadlock was broken with the District team scoring two tries before the break to open up a handy 12-0 lead at the break.

The warm conditions helped the game open up in the second half with both teams adding two more tries to the overall tally. Mandurah Pirates flyhalf Steve Quinlan was Man of the Match putting on a fine attacking display and scoring two tries.
