Super W confirms fixtures for 2021 season

    by Nathan Williamson

The fixtures have been confirmed for Super W ahead of the 2021 season.

All games will be broadcast live and on demand on Stan Sport, with the opening round set to be played at Easts Rugby Club in Brisbane and Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan.

The action then moves to Coffs Harbour, where the remaining games will be played at C.ex Coffs International Stadium, with the Final slated for July 3.

The teams will be split into two pools of three after the inclusion of the President's XV, designed to give more opportunities to females athletes.

They will be joined by Pool B by the Waratahs and Rebels, with the Brumbies, Reds and newly re-named Western Force making up Pool A.

Rugby Australia’s Chief Executive Officer Andy Marinos said in a statement: “We are really excited to announce Buildcorp Super W 2021 and are delighted to be hosting a festival of rugby style tournament in Coffs Harbour.”

“In full consultation with the teams, we made a decision to alter the format and dates of the competition for this year. This is only for 2021 and the competition will revert to a home and away format from 2022.

“The changes are mainly due to the unique nature of the season, with a need to help prepare our national teams for the Olympic Games and Rugby World Cup 2021. We were also very conscious of the COVID-19 environment and the format deliberately reduces interstate travel.

“With the Olympic Games taking place in July 2021, it was important that the Aon Uni Sevens Series was played earlier in the year, ahead of Buildcorp Super W.

“Whilst the Rugby World Cup has been postponed for twelve months, we are still excited to see our Buildcorp Wallaroos back in action this season playing two Tests against Samoa in July."

Stan's Acting Chief Executive Martin Kugeler added: “Some of the best Women’s Rugby players in the world call the Super W home and we can’t wait for the 2021 season to kick off exclusively on Stan Sport."

“We are proud to support Australia’s premier domestic Women’s tournament as it continues to grow, bringing Australian Rugby fans every match live and on demand on Stan Sport.”

Odd fixturing. The Brumbies, Reds, Waratahs and Rebels play on the 19th June then the 27th June and 30th June. The Force and Presidents XV play their first match on the 24th, then the 27th and 30th June. Why can't the Force and President's XV play their first match on the 19th June somewhere? It's like the organisers aren't even trying to show even-handedness.
