When Stan Sport goes to market, sources have said the cost will be about $10 per month, meaning rugby fans will be able to watch every match of the season - as well as Wimbledon and the French Open - for $20 a month.
Stan worked overtime through the summer to build a live streaming platform from the ground up and sources told the Herald the $10 figure was decided upon after conducting testing on a range of different prices.
Senior Stan figures were aware of talk the sport package may cost up to $25 - putting it on par with Kayo, which has every NRL, AFL and cricket match as well as a range of other less popular and overseas sports.
Market research also showed there were many hardcore rugby fans who would happily shift from their Foxtel or Kayo subscriptions and pay the hefty price tag but Stan was eager to ensure better value for money in an attempt to attract as many new customers as possible.
The package is set to be launched near to the Super Rugby AU start date of February 19, when the Waratahs travel north to face the Reds before the Force host the Brumbies in Perth.

Maybe I'm just old and confused... Is it $10/month or $20/month? Or are they saying it's $10 for the rugby, and another $10 for the tennis?
Dear Lord, if you give us back Johnny Cash, we'll give you Justin Bieber.
$10 per month is the basic Stan - another $10 gets you Stan Sport which total is $20 per month.
Ah - gotcha. That's quite noice.
Dear Lord, if you give us back Johnny Cash, we'll give you Justin Bieber.
Thanks Jargs.

Biggest question for mine remains how they will get it into the pubs. That is the vast majority of the sport's 'casual' viewership.
Stan basic is only SD for $10/mth; you have to pay $14/mth for the next level which gives you Stan HD. I wonder whether this means that Stan Sport is only in SD, or if the Sport is in HD and you get it with the standard SD package, or if you pay the extra $4/mth you can get the Sport in HD.
Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
<edit> as per Sheikh ...
Probably a lot of folk would pay the extra $4/month to upgrade from SD to HD.
Basic Stan
$10 per month
SD resolutiion
1 stream at a time
1 offline download device
Standard Stan
$14 per month
HD resolutiion
3 simultaneous streams
3 offline download devices
I'd say they'd have to produce the rugby in HD ... otherwise it's a tough prospect trying to sell it as only SD overseas (to the likes of NZ for a start, but also UK, et al).
Yes, it will be largely "channel filler" elsewhere, but there are still niche audiences willing to pay for HD.
I will definately be getting HD, fast moving images are not good watching in SD.
Am I the only one who doesn't see the value here? $20 a month for 2 or 3 matches assuming I go to the local games and get some Force games on FTA
I am assuming that STAN Sport wont be showing
6 Nations.
