John O'Neill Resigns as Soccer Boss

    http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,20293213-2,00.html

Article over at news.com.au says that John O'Neill has resigned from the other football code.

I remember speculation (or wishful thinking) a while back that he could come back to the ARU as an executive chairman (whatever that is), but now that this has happened maybe it is a more realistic chance.

What does everyone think? Would John O'Neill be a valuable addition to Australian rugby (again)?

Note: He ends his employment in 03/07 so probably not enough time for anything miraculous before RWC. I am thinking more structurally and administratively (APC, club comp etc.)

No chance John O'Neill will ever come back. Talk is that after his extended break he will take up a position with FIFA.

The ARU tried really hard to get him back after they finally realised how much of a dud flowers is and its been dissapointing to see Rugby becoem the least popular main sport in Australia.

John will never return to the ARU too many burnt bridges plus with no disrespect to the IRB working with Soccer and such a huge organisation such as FIFA why the hell would he want to come abck and Fix the mess up.

would be good to get him back, but I think for that to happen his powers would need to be vastly increased. There's too much dead wood at the ARU and given his track record he can pretty go anywhere he wants now.

Some options would be director of rugby at the RFU, a position within the IRB (wouldn't that stick it up the ARU...) or even back to banking.

I don't think he'd get a high position in FIFA, they're intensly political and wouldn't have an Australian heading it up - need to get votes from all over the world and it's as old a boys club as they come..

Does being held in high regard by a muppet (Blatter) count in your favour?

Didn't I read somewhere that the Force has lost some management bodies? Wonder if he fancies a change of pace?

Isn't the English language strange when 2 words spelt the same can mean totally different things: resign & re-sign!!!
