The NRL is in almost as bad a shape as RA re the struggle with AFL for juniors. Years of neglect of the regions, as well as raiding their kids to stack city based elite competitions is just bringing a slow decline in participation. Kids ought to be encouraged to play for fun - not to be cannon fodder for the delusions of wannabe senior coaches. Whatever way either or both codes go, the clock is ticking faster and faster.
The closest to hybrid is tag but league start tackling at a earlier age. Rugby is at under 8s. The games are apart already there even when it is at the very basic catch pass phase.

Webcke needed access to the game where he could have played both like most kids in more populated areas can do. Pretty sure he grew up in a part of Queensland where there’s no Rugby clubs. Wendell Sailor had no access to the game where he grew up and I doubt Slater and Hodges did either. Hodges and Slater grew up in Far NQ where the game is very barren.

Moore grew up in Yeppoon near Rockhampton where there is Rugby clubs. His junior club has folded and other clubs have gone. That’s why he signed the letter to submerge the board as letting the insanity of sending the game in to the abyss continue was just madness.

Instead of apologists sticking up for the RA they should have looked at why they signed and Moore had a very valid reason. He was willing to join the board to bring forward change but due to the incompetent governance and politics I doubt he will get on it now.

They over compensated by signing players like Beale and O’Connor.
Not forgetting Cipriani who took them for a nice long expensive ride, whilst enjoying the ‘attractions’ in Melbourne.

Cipriani was there from the beginning. Macqueen banned him from the team and his contract was torn up.

The damage was already done- Beale, O’connor, Quade et al didn’t need a lot of encouragement. And so the sseds of the Wobblies demise began with these little shits. Don’t think Cipriani is yet to learn his lesson tho’.

The coaches didn’t have to select them and the RA had the chance to sack Beale but bottled it.

Beale was given a free ride through his entire career because he was Aboriginal and from western Sydney. The or and hype machine continually worked overtime to paper over the flaws in his game rather that admit that their only indigenous player wasn't up to the task. Finally enough a number of indigenous forwards who didn't Gail from western Sydney were not afforded the same passionate support but 🤷

It took a two year drugs ban to end Andrew Walker’s test career. He got away with a fair bit too.

Andrew Walker was a very good player, unlike KB.

Far better player at Super Rugby level and wasn’t a weak defender. He had better competition for a spot in the test team.

Like Beale he had a DUI on his record and couldn’t drive to training. He often went walkabout which is better than turning up out of shape.

I feel a little uncomfortable with certain aspects of where this discussion has headed. But I will say that despite some of the difficulties he had to battle, Andrew Walker is probably the most naturally gifted player I've had the pleasure to watch in both codes. And apart from that one of the very best as well.
