Every loss to the Rebels is another huge kick in the guts and brings back all the anger I wish I could stop feeling.

Only consolation is that as Force supporters we hold the moral high ground. I must hold on to that.

Freaking yellow cards! Discipline, discipline, discipline! How many times over the years have I said that?
Otherwise what an exciting game not pretty but kept me on the edge of my seat.
Angus was positively looking to help the Force! LOL
Dogs suffering from hearing loss after being deafened.
Mrs Snobs probably not going to talk for the rest of the night!
Next year will be a better year all round with a more settled squad and some belief and they all ready have plenty of heart.

Force did everything they could to lose that game in the last ten minutes.

Hardwick played well and clean, no criticism of him tonight, I only have an issue with his foul play.

Byron yellow card was dumb but Fergus was inexcusable.

I still believe depth is the issue, once we start going to the bench we can't keep up. Tim knows it, why else would you ask Kieran longbottom to play 70 minutes. Pek was even longer

I believe we should commence a 2021 post and identify players that will add to or develop within the Force structure. My initial thoughts for depth is to scour country and city rugby australia wide for players that have speed, size, basic skills and smarts ( not your bone head types). Also look at what we lacked in coaching, after watching the reds run over the brumbies and the kiwi North/ South game you know what skills we lacked. And one for the closet mungo's within posters - look critically at personnel to fill the spine and the pack. Development players and current players - be critical in who we want. There is talent and rough diamonds out there but we need to look and look hard at who they are and what they bring.
    Thoughts?

Well I'm hardly in that closet - more like kicked the door in to see who IS in there.

Anyway; not too sure what you mean there. Try to attract juniors from NRLWA or scour NSW/Qld etc for kids who slipped through the cracks? Going back a few years they were about - smaller but skillful kids missing elite programs and losing interest in a pro career.

Sorry Shasta I didn't explain it that well. Basically look at rugby all over the country to find the rough diamonds. Look to create the nexgen of 15/10/9/8 and 2. Add in some good mobile props - no disrepect to our current senior guys. Our WF academy can develop similar to the Reds and Brumbies but we need the coaches and skills specialists. And can someone teach people to kick for goal and tactically.
Everything is open for discussion but I believe we have the talent available Australia wide and local, we just need to work with them.
If we are to succeed long term we need to replicate the benchmarks, Crusaders, Brumbies, Reds and now even the Blues who were a basket case not long ago. There are some good young guys who went O/S but we don't have to ransom the farm to have them here.
Just thoughts , may need a bourbon or two to see clarity.

Well Alison, I guess we have little choice but to take it on the chin (again). However, perhaps we can mitigate our disappointment by remembering last year's NRC performance by the Force.

I must admit that I have grown weary this year of receiving earnest commiserations from my North Shore mates on the occasion of each Force near-miss - of which there have been several this season.

But come November, after much soul-searching, I will probably renew our Force Memberships and sign us up for another year of likely disappointment. (SWMBO has gotten into the unfortunate habit of shaking her head each year that I renew our memberships and calling me a masochist).

However, I have received a small consolation!
Gordon is 6 from 6 and on top of the SS log - and to add to the joy of the occasion, Gordon's victim this weekend was Randwick (at Coogee). How sweet it is.

    Here is what I'd do:
    - Consider 2021 a development year as the aim is to be ready for full Super rugby when it returns. Keeping in mind our squad is likely to be better and other squads are likely to be worse off as budgets are being cut across the board, so not a whole lot of changes need to happen to make us more competitive. We hopefully won't be spending 10 weeks on the road as well. The big issue for us this year has been bench depth- we are typically in the game for the first 60 minutes only to lose it in the last 20. There are only two exceptions (the blow out against the Reds and the never got started against the Brumbies).
    - Work out who wants to stay. Assuming everyone did I'd go from here...
    - Props: We have some old warriors in our front row. I love Cowan and Longbottom, but I don't seem them as anything but bench options/additional depth from here. It'd be great to get Jermaine Ainsley and Shambeckler Vui back as tightheads. People used to give Victor Harris big raps as a junior- wonder how he is going. No good ideas of other options at loosehead- any reason why Wagner didn't play again after the first week or so?
    - Hookers: Love the way Ready has played the last few games. He has been great in the set piece and strong over the ball. I'd persist with him as the starting 2. I'm not convinced about Kaitu'u. Be great to pick up someone like Tolu Latu. Anyone promising in the academy who could play 2?
    - Locks: Be interesting to see how Ben Grant develops. He certainly has the frame. Otherwise, we need better options here. There are heaps of Aussies overseas- Arnold x2, Coleman, Rodda, Skelton to name a few. We need one really good option and another who cuts the mustard. Thrush is near retirement and I don't think Atkins has shown enough.
    - Blindsides: FLW has been playing pretty well at 6 in my opinion (stupid decisions over the weekend aside). You've also got Stowers. Not sure there are a plethora of 6s going around. At 194cm, I'd see Jackson Pugh in the academy as a long-term 6.
    - Opensides: I'd try to get Tizzano back from the Tahs after next year. Koteka is probably our best 7 until then. Ferris and Ollie Callan are good understudies.
    - Number 8s: Stander is a pretty good 8. I'd be happy to keep him. Be interesting to see how Alex Masibaka develops in the academy. He was the 8 for the Aussie schools team that beat NZ last year. If Stowers stays, he is a back-up 8 as well.
    - Scrum-halves: McDonald is contracted to the Tahs for two more years. I'd be looking at getting him back when possible. In the mean time Prior is a good starter, with Jacob Abel and Ethan O'Sullivan as development options. I haven't been at all impressed by Frisby. We'd do well out of a better back up 9 option.
    - Keep Jonno Lance at 10. Recruit Pasitoa from the Brumbies (he is behind Kuenzle and Lolesio) as the long term 10 option. Pasitoa was born in WA so we can claim him. You have guys like Prior and MacGregor who can fill in too. Zack Holmes is only 30. Would love to see if he'd consider coming back.
    - Easy to forget Nick Jooste is still only 23. I'd keep him as the development 12 or 13. It would be great to try to hold onto Godwin too. There was talk of him going to the Tahs but I haven't seen it confirmed. Maybe budgets won't cover it. I wonder though if Godwin isn't better suited to the modern 13 position. Would love a big unit in at 12. I feel like we have missed a bit of go forward from 12. Too many fond memories of Staniforth.
    - Grason Makara could be a good long term 13 (Godwin/Jooste also discussed above). In the mean time, it would be good to have someone who is starting quality. I am not a huge fan of Curtis Rona's religious beliefs, but he is from WA and had signed with the Force to come back here at one point.
    - Recruit Jack Hardy back from the Reds. He is a WA boy. Play him alongside Byron Ralston. I can't say I've been too impressed by Lacey. It's a shame we never saw Jonah Placid on the wing. Might be worth recruiting here as we don't seem to have a lot of depth- Always rated Naivalu.
    - As much as I'd love to see DHP back, I don't see him staying around long term. Better to stick with MacGregor and maybe look at getting a guy like Luke Burton back.

I thought that Saturdays game against the Rebels was almost the perfect game of emotional Rugby. I believe that the Western Force team of 2020 has been punching above its weight class throughout the SuperRugby-AU season.
I have been very proud of how the team has played throughout the 2020 season but never once did I think that we would win a match.

For the record I beleive that the perfect match of emotional Rugby was the 2017 Force v Waratahs match (Hodgo's last match).

    Saturdays match:

I thought that Andrew Reddy had a blinder and I was disappointed when he came off the field. Kyle Godwin had another excellent match. The discipline in the second half was very disappointing. Byron Ralston's Yellow card was moronic. Our defensive effort was very much dependant on how keen the Rebels were wanting to score. When the Rebels needed to score, they did. Especially if they required to respond to the Force scoring.

    2021:

Assuming that COVID will require that SuperRugby-AU will go round again. I believe that the Western Force desperately need to go on a recruiting drive. They are in desperate need of at least 3 dominate game changers/finishers.

    Along with replacements for
    Jono Lance,
    Pek Cowan,
    Kieran Longbottom,
    Jeremy Thrush,
    Heath Tessman, and
    Richard Kahui.

Also a strong Defensive General would be a part of my wishlist.

These players would see the Western Force perform well against the Kiwi oppostion, assuming we receive an invite to the combined SuperRugby-Aotearoa in 2022.

I would try and get Deegan back as our starting 10. Have been unimpressed by Lance’s all round game this season. I would also keep Henry Taefu as starting 12. He is a good attacking centre and gives 110% every single game.

I wholeheartedly agree that we need a few superstar players, especially in the back-line that can be those game changers. Should help that we should hopefully have Placid back from injury for next year. Don't agree about replacing either Thrush or Longbottom, thought they have both been absolute standouts for the Force this season (that is not to say we shouldn't start blooding some young players to replace them within the next couple of years).

Although KBomb is 34, he did not play a lot of games in England, mainly through injury. He is still capable of big minutes and is sorely missed when subbed. A keeper for sure. If he wants to play on.

Agree 100% with everything you have said.

The problem is he appears to be "offside" with the Referees and is a Penalty magnet at scrum time. Perhaps the break to the new season will get him out of the officials' minds. I hope so.
