If those figures are accurate ($500K-a-year), I'd say that's an OK deal for the Dogs and for J.A-C. I'd hazard a guess he could have asked around 600-700K had Covid not come along.

I rate him 100% as a player but but don't like his attitude and behaviour on or off the field, but a bargain at that money..

Queensland Maroons fullback Corey Allan has left South Sydney

The Canterbury Bulldogs have reportedly been boosted ahead of the upcoming NRL season with a big-name signing.

A new era at the Bulldogs will also include a new fullback.

7 News reports Canterbury has signed Queensland and South Sydney player Corey Allan on a three-year deal in a major boost to Trent Barrett’s outfit.

Allan provided solid cover for Latrell Mitchell when he was injured last season and appears set to build on the late-season form that saw him elevated to the Maroons side by grabbing a starting spot with the Dogs.

The fullback position was unsettled at Canterbury with high-profile 2019 signing Dallin Watene-Zelezniak losing his grip on the spot and moving to the wing last year.

Young star Jake Averillo was also seen as an option but in Allan the Bulldogs have a player who set up the opening try and ran the ball well on debut in the Maroons’ Game Three triumph.

The 22-year-old will join fellow new signings Nick Cotric (Raiders), Kyle Flanagan (Roosters), Corey Waddell (Sea Eagles) and Jack Hetherington (Panthers).

There was speculation late last year Melbourne Storm was interested in the 29-game player’s services as it plans to cover the departure of Josh Add0-Carr after this season, but instead it looks like Allan and the Fox will be teammates at Canterbury.

Interesting. Nick Meaney is coming along nicely at FB and will be wanting put his hand up for that spot. DW-Z was a complete dud last year. The number of times he spilled the ball & bullshitted skipper was infuriating. Josh Jackson wasted many challenges because of that - almost weekly. I was hoping they'd move him on. But no; they re-signed him for another 2 years.

That's interesting. Roy Masters posited the possibility of Murdoch becoming the sole rights holder to NRL by offering the mandated FTA content on the Kayo platform about a week ago. V'landys & Abdo arrived back from meetings with Lachlan Murdoch a few days ago. And voila (?) the NRL Digital pass ($99 a year) is no more. Fox's deal is until 2027. Ch 9 until 2022.

Had a feeling that this might eventually happen after News Ltd started crying about digital rights last year or possibly the year before.

Went into the NRL app and redeemed an offer for Kayo at $5 a month for 12 months so I guess that's not too bad.

Since punting Fox and discovering streaming, I watched the finals of 2019 QLD Cup. A younger Harry Grant captaining Sunny Coast; uncanny how clumsy he was. Falling over or getting his legs or arms tangled in the ruck or holding down too long. Sometimes even winning a penalty for it. Amazing how such an clumsy bugger managed to play Origin the next year.

Surely you're not implying Storm players are coached to be so sloppy??

    I was.

For any other bloody Mungos who have punted Foxtel; Ch 9 are showing the Allstars game on 9 Gem on Saturday afternoon. Which probably explains why Round 1 of SR Au is the only one with no Saturday game.

Hoping for a win by Souths. But if I was having a punt (the detestable) Storm by 8.
If the rule changes stick the 2 codes will be more different than ever. Which is all good. Maybe?
