Fiji will still get the position anyway, won't they? Its a seat for the Fiji RU rather than the nominee and they just need to nominate someone else?

Not sure about that but it is more relevant that they aren’t voting for Pichot. It is assumed that SA will vote for Pichot due to SANZAAR even though they are a partner in the Pro 14. Europe also promises better riches for them after this mess.

    Sort of.

The main game was the nomination for the executive committee. Nine blokes (now down to eight with nominations closed) for eight positions. So that's gooone.

But you're right, Fiji still have their delegate seat on the wider council - where John O’Connor (FRU CEO) will replace Kean.

OK. I actually thought the nomination would still stand for a Fijian substitute nominee.

My bet is South Africa will drop a big turd in Australia's punchbowl over the RWC, and it might well be a big subtext in who they vote for...wouldn't be surprised if they'd already been tipped the nod.

US was a possibility, but their current issues may make that unlikely when they'll need to be putting their hand in the air next year. Maybe a bit of sharing could be possible, but logistically tougher. In any case, I think RA are delusional.

I don’t think SA have put a bid in. Their other failed bids has cost them a power of money and getting Government is difficult there.

Funnily enough this is the one they would most likely win.

The bid process doesn't start until November, even assuming there is no covid delay. We'll see then I guess, but I can't help wondering about a consolation prize following the 2023 vote and the desire for a bankable cup so they can at least think about taking a punt on the US.

The US can’t apply when their union is under Chapter 11.

    OK, seen something here:

Incumbent World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont could reportedly be faced with a late dilemma on the eve of the elections for the organisation’s top role.

A Daily Mail report suggests that Beaumont’s electoral campaign may unravel as both Ireland and Wales – two countries thought to have backed the ex-England captain’s campaign – consider throwing their support behind opposition frontrunner Agustin Pichot.

“Sportsmail reported earlier this week that there was a chance that one of the Six Nations unions would vote for Pichot and now it is understood that both the Irish and Welsh are considering the option of aligning with counterparts in the Southern Hemisphere by supporting the Argentine,” said the report...

    https://www.rugbypass.com/news/late-...umont-report-2

But it's quoting the Daily Mail, hardly a reliable source.

Could be B/S ... or those countries trying to extract an extra favour from the Poms??

    Fun and games!

Ireland usually vote in line with RFU and they weren’t keen on the Nations League.

That's what I was thinking. But they do get bullied by the RFU as well.

The other thing is that Beamont, under pressure, has also flagged another look at a Nations League anyway. His might be the "handbrake" version, but still.

    ALSO

Who screwed them over on their recent RWC bid? I know there was a lost of angst from the Irish on that.

That was the Scottish and Welsh. The RFU voted for Ireland. The relationship is there as England travelled to Ireland during the Troubles.
