    Stop Laughing, This is Serious!

The Australian Rugby Union have issued a directive suspending all Community Rugby, including training, until May.

Now watch those sneaky bastards at Wests, Nedlands, Associates and Cottesloe organise secret training venues at private schools.

The first sign will be when you see their scrum machines being transported for "servicing".

At least the flight bans stops certain teams bringing in their last minute Kiwi contingent when they suddenly realise they are short of numbers in Premier Grade - eh bro.

Nah, they'll just "borrow" the shortfall from other clubs.

Very reassuring. Things are getting back to normal already.

So now the competition is extremely unlikely to take place. In fact, that's almost a guarantee.

I feel the pain (when I stop laughing) of clubs which have spent big on imports, promising now non existent jobs, chances to get into the Global Nonesuch through club connections, sign on money in the thousands, weekly match fees in the mid hundreds, free or subsidised accommodation, cars, and of course return airfares for the players and their family members.

And that's only part of the pain. Officials having to deal with aggressive players demanding their unearned "entitlements". Family tragedy's of players who arrived before their partners and now can't bring them over, and can't go back without missing out on most of that which they were promised, and going into quarantine on their return. But it seemed such a good wheeze at the time!

Now, club bars unable to open, sponsors losing interest as there is no longer anything in it for them, no income to pay for ongoing overheads such as ground fees, volunteers unavailable, sick, and scared (mostly elderly).

How good is that, Hanrahan never said.

    Ever.

It is not a good situation to be in for any of the clubs as you say sponsorships, player fees and bar sales are how we survive. Without them it is pretty dire. No big imports from our club so that is good. Hopefully ground fees are not requested otherwise it will really hurt.
