Global Rapid Rugby and the Great Expectations

With the start of Global Rapid Rugby now less than a month away. I thought it would be interesting to see what the TWF family sees as a successful first season.

So to try something different - let's do this as a questionnaire for you to copy and paste (this one is for The Lone Hydrangea)

Will you be a Western Force member for 2020?

Will you be attending HBF Park for Force matches in 2020?

Will you be hoping to watch Force matches on TV/Streaming in 2020?

Will you watch other GRR matches on TV/Streaming if they are available to you in 2020?

What is your expectation for a successful Western Force 2020 season?

Where do you see the GRR Competition in 5, 10 and 20 years' time?

    Any other comments?

Will you be a Western Force member for 2020?
    Of course

Will you be attending HBF Park for Force matches in 2020?
    All of them!

Will you be hoping to watch Force matches on TV/Streaming in 2020?
    Hoping to

Will you watch other GRR matches on TV/Streaming if they are available to you in 2020?
    yes

What is your expectation for a successful Western Force 2020 season?

Having the Force play in front of crowds double that of the Australian Super teams - although if the Brumbies and Rebels crowds are anything to go by, maybe I've set the mark too low?

Where do you see the GRR Competition in 5, 10 and 20 years' time?
In five years - being a robust, financially stable competition of 6-10 teams

Will you be a Western Force member for 2020?

    Yep

Will you be attending HBF Park for Force matches in 2020?

Most, the games I dont make I pass my ticket on, this has had people join up the following year.

Will you be hoping to watch Force matches on TV/Streaming in 2020?

Yes, pretty much the only reason I got Kayo. If its not on that ill be ending my subscription.

Will you watch other GRR matches on TV/Streaming if they are available to you in 2020?

Certainly, looking forward to it. Im happy the less rugby strong areas have linked with NZ/SA clubs, which I hope bridges the gap, builds the skills and eventually the host country will be the majority.

What is your expectation for a successful Western Force 2020 season?

Competitive matches, strong crowds, accessible games

Where do you see the GRR Competition in 5, 10 and 20 years' time?

Honestly, I expect the whole rugby landscape will change in the southern hemisphere. GRR will keep teams like WF and sunwolves, also Fiji and Samoa alive until then. Following that, it will provide growing the game in other areas while giving fringe countries a pro comp, increasing their skill. Hopefully a div 2 Force side (Div 1 being in a SH comp) as recent reports show the NSW thinking of they are the be all of Rugby in Aus hasnt changed so we will be excluded from any future 'national' comp

Will you be a Western Force member for 2020?

    100%

Will you be attending HBF Park for Force matches in 2020?

    Certainly will

Will you be hoping to watch Force matches on TV/Streaming in 2020?

Like Leo, I'm only keeping Kayo until I find out who's streaming GRR, once that is announced I'll be going with whoever that is.

Will you watch other GRR matches on TV/Streaming if they are available to you in 2020?

Yes, I'm keen to watch as much as possible

What is your expectation for a successful Western Force 2020 season?

Competitive games, honestly I think the competition will be better off if the Force DON'T win it. It'd be great if one of the pacific teams gets a million dollar boost and it'll show that the comp is more than just a paid playground for Twiggy's team.

Where do you see the GRR Competition in 5, 10 and 20 years' time?

5 years, the RA overhyped TV deal will still be in, so I'm thinking we won't have any more respect from the establishmnet, ut SUper Rugby will be virtually dead, the Sydney and Brisbane club scene will be killed by the pressure of finding enough players to fill teams and only a couple of teams in each city will survive and GRR will be healthy, but still a niche. Once the TV rights for Super Rugby go belly up, RA will be left broke and without any structure to speak of. Sydney and Brisbane power brokers will be looking for a competition to overtake and that's the moment that Twiggy's groundwork will become important. If GRR can maintain the integrity it was conceptualised with then rugby will be saved, if not, then the 10 and 20 year anniversary will be the same old shit that we've been saddled with since 1996

Will you be a Western Force member for 2020?

    Yes.

Will you be attending HBF Park for Force matches in 2020?

Might get to one if I’m lucky.

Will you be hoping to watch Force matches on TV/Streaming in 2020?

Let’s hope so. Probably not streaming if it’s on computer was hoping for FTA.

Will you watch other GRR matches on TV/Streaming if they are available to you in 2020?

    I imagine so if shown.

What is your expectation for a successful Western Force 2020 season?

    Win, win, win!

Where do you see the GRR Competition in 5, 10 and 20 years' time?

It all depends on what happens with SR unfortunately! If SR implodes as looks possible GRR will thrive. If SR changes and becomes financially viable we will probably remain a feeder comp for SR. If GRR can take off and then find some rich benefactors and GRR can afford to bring it top marquee players maybe we will become the company the players want to play in! If that happens the sky is the limit! It is out of our hands!

    Any other comments?

I just hope we can get good home crowds I feel that the whole future will hang in that.
