    Season 2019

    Hi all

So the draw is out for the 2019 season, and we have 7 Premier Grade fixtures each weekend now, with no byes. (Welcome to the Big Time, Curtin: what were you thinking?)

Referees' pre season seminar was held last Saturday, with some minor tweaks to a couple of law areas - unusual for a RWC year, but that's World Rugby for you.

How is your team looking for the new season?

Hurrah ... let's make the season worthwhile & congratulate clubs that do well . We're up against other sports not other clubs !
Looking to pick a first round match to go to ... could be Curtin against JB's.

When we did the IATWF stickers a couple of years ago, I had a good chat to a couple of the Curtin committee members. What I was impressed with at the time was their 'can do' attitude and willingness to buy in - I sold most of the stickers in the club rooms in around 20 minutes. They had vision and were keen as mustard. I'm surprised they've made the jump into the top tier so quickly but good luck to them.

Andrew, your ATWF stickers are still on the back of a lot of cars around Perth. You should be really proud of your one man sticker campaign to save the Force. It did not save the Force from the ARU knife in the back, but it was the passion of people like you, Alison and many other, doing things like that, that persuaded Twiggy, that he needed to do something to keep the Force alive.

I have my Force hat on in a coffee shop right now, with your Force sticker still on my car outside. I believe we need to keep our Force passion alight. The good times are coming again - soon!.

Wash your mouth out with soap! it was a team effort - If Val hadn't lent her skills, and you guys hadn't stumped up the money and helped sell them, then it would have come to nothing.

Didn't they only have 2 "4th" grade sides last year? Hope they go well, but how can they go from 2 sides in 4th grade to teams in prems, reserves and 3rd? Or do they not have to field teams in those divisions?

Not sure how many grade Coastal Cavaliers had last season. Weren't they similarly stretched?

Also not sure about the requirements from RWA these days. Used to be they had to field Premier, Reserve and Colts/U20 back in the day.

Coastal Cavaliers had sides 1-3 plus colts from memory but they had a heap of players back up for 2's from 3's when we played them.

Interesting seeing Curtin come up. I watched them in their first trial and all three sides were well beaten, especially their first grade who let in 10+ tries. You may expect this from a club new to the competition, But from all reports they haven't recruited very many. They were well beaten against a young front row at scrum time and are obviously still working on their structure. I hope they can be competitive, we need all clubs to be strong and lets hope the new clubs from last season can keep the improvement we saw last season!

Pre season trials mean nothing, as the old phrase goes. Coaches tinkering with personnel and positions, as well as playing style etc.

That said, methinks the new kids on the block might struggle, hence my original question.

This weekend we appear to have:
    Cott hosting Baysie
    UWA hosting Joondalup
    Neddies hosting Soaks and Wests
    S Lions & Kala
    Wanneroo & Paly
    ARKS internal
    Baysie hosting Irish & Geraldton
    Swan Suburbs hosting Kwinana
