Smith will improve the side but Warner only averages 37 in England. Fairly certain he hasn’t scored a 100 over there.

Given the form of both sides this series is going to be a cripple fight. I’ll take England in home conditions with the Duke Ball which will be England’s version of an inanimate carbon rod.

A lot will depend on 36 year old Jimmy Anderson. England are struggling to get a fit third seamer and a spinner. Moeen Ali is very fortunate to still have a test career after his disastrous Ashes tour.

Australia will be happy with the venues as there are no tests on in Cardiff, Trent Bridge or Durham. Playing in August will also favour Australia as it will be warmer and not as overcast so the pitches will be flatter along with more favourable overhead conditions. With Old Trafford and Headingley on the list of venues that will favour Nathan Lyon and the Aussie quicks. Having a better spinner and faster quicks will help Australia.

Harris got 95 today and Bancroft carried his bat after scoring a ton. Burns also got a 60. Good signs that Australia have options to open the batting and players in form. England don’t have that and they have the same scheduling issues with the County Championship on hiatus for white ball Cricket in August.
