    Captain America

Congrats to Brache on being named captain for USA game against Chile

Headlining the squad as Captain is wing Marcel Brache who takes on the role with Blaine Scully out due to injury. Brache owns 12 caps with the Eagles and has been a leader amongst the group since his debut in 2016

If you can't get a shield, how about a blue scrum cap with an 'A' on it?

Marcel could be set for the big time now!

International rugby is braced for the biggest change in modern history with plans to create a World League that will see Japan and the USA join the Rugby Championship set to be signed off as early as next month.

The Herald understands that a 12-team World League has captured the imagination of the leading nations and that an unknown broadcaster has already tabled an offer to finance the concept in a deal that will be worth around $10m-$14m a season for each nation.

The proposal has been under consideration for several months now and has seemingly won universal support from the 12 nations who will be involved.
There is now thought to be some urgency to try to sign off on this before the Six Nations and Rugby Championship begin separate negotiations to renew their existing broadcast rights.

The clock is also ticking as the plan is to have the new format in play by 2020.
Essentially the new format will require all 12 nations to play each other once in the calendar year, with a semi-final and final to be played in late November, possibly early December.

The 12 nations will be the current Six Nations – England, France, Italy, Scotland, Ireland and Wales – the current Rugby Championship sides of New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Argentina plus Japan and USA who are going to be invited to join the Rugby Championship.

There will be no promotion or relegation from either the Six Nations or Rugby Championship which means the likes of Fiji, Samoa and Tonga have been left out in the cold for at least 10 years.

From an All Blacks perspective, the international season will kick off in July with three home test as per usual.

Great for Marcel. Crap for the financially poorer second tier nations though. I’m very disappointed with World Rugby.

Surely this is down to SANZAAR and the 6N specifically, though.

Yes, those organisations combined control WR. But in this case it's the unions' own particular self interest choosing this path - not World Rugby as such.

And it's not a done deal either. There's still a chance the 6N will say "stuff you all".

Kiap I sincerely hope they do. Currently the 6Nations unions play tier two nations. Apart from NZ the SANZAAR unions have been poor in this regard.

But this is the World League thing that World Rugby (or First World Rugby, as I now prefer to call them) has been developing. Yes, SANZAAAR and the 6N have bought in, but fundamentally this is FWR’s brainchild.
