Did you really expect World Rugby to do anything different?

SANZAAR is solely responsible for who it lets join The Rugby Championship.

    • One Hundred Per Cent.

The decision to rule out promotion/relegation was made 100% by the Six Nations.

    • Nothing to do with World Rugby. Zero.

The proposed competition was the brainchild of Agustín Pichot. It orginally was for the top 12 nations (i.e. Fiji included and for those teams forcing their way up the rankings, a chance to play-off to get in).

The 6N did not want a bar of it (and even with the revised proposal, maybe still don't). It's understandable, but that's what it is.

Similarly, if World Rugby insisted Fiji be invited into TRC, old mate Pichot plus Beaumont and Gosper would be told where to get off. SANZAAR prefer a market like United States to Fiji. It's hardly rocket surgery to figure out why.

We don't have to like it. Neither does WR, but it's not their call.

If this reported plan is accurate then it's a disgrace.

Reminds of when Australia, England and India took over the ICC.

It might have been accurate, relatively. The push for this thing is really from the SH, it has to be said.

It's also probably dead, at least for now ... in that particular guise.

Exactly the same reasons as adding the sun wolves to superficial rugby and we all know how well that has gone.....

Having this "world league" is gonna completely devalue the World Cup. If having a Semi and Final each year, what are you really looking forward to every 4 years?

I always preferred keeping the hemispheres separated

This "world league"" is all about big money ie sponsors money and TV audience money. Unfortunately Fiji and others cannot generate either

Agree on your comment, that it is going to completely devalue the World Cup. The WC is the World Rugby cash-cow, that they use to feed Fiji and other small developing rugby countries.
I wonder if World Rugby will get a bigger cut in total from the "world league"" than they currently get every 4 years from WC.

I imagine the 'world league"" money that Australia, NZ, RSA and Argentina, will be used to inflate a handful of the stars salaries and try to keep them at home and out of the English, French, and Japanese clubs. (and GRR for that matter)

Alison despite propaganda from the Australian media who are puppets to the RA the Six Nations haven’t brought in.

Nine out of ten captains opposed this on a conference call. I suspect that the odd one out is Hooper who has to protect is brand and the RA’s

Yes, a 5-year $6million contract must have to come with some pretty thick strings....and a puppeteer

Well that will just cover Michael Hoopers contract, with a few crumbs left over for the ""grassroots""

It might not if you played so well that you were the unquestioned best in the world at what you do. Perhaps it's just that we haven't seen what Hooper is the best in the world at. Anybody prepared to guess

Yeah, I would have been keen to have more three-test series and tour matches in between.
