Well X, I have to humbly apologise for not including a referential quote there. I was commenting on points raised by Finger Tips and his Lindfield mates at the Boxing Day Test.

I don't think the Rebels financial viability have to be part of Wessels job decision. He is in Melbourne, maybe he just doesn't like tosspots?

The financial position has an affect on whether he will get paid, what staff he can have working with him, budget and what additional players he can have around the squad.

Fair point, but I'm sure that pales in comparison to the fact that he's forced to live in a shithole

If I was Wessels I would do the same thing.

This is to go with the RA's financial woes. Can they continue to afford to fund the agreed incremental payments and pay an advance to the Reds to deal with their cash flow issues in a year where they have a reduced domestic test schedule. They have already asked for the Perth Bledisloe money off the WA Government in advance.

The IRB compensation doesn't cover the shortfall from the lack of domestic schedule. The 6 Nations teams are at least smart enough to schedule RWC warm up tests to cover the loss of AIs. Wales (the WRU is still in debt due to the stadium rebuild) have schedule two warm ups in Cardiff to boost their revenue as they have only two Six Nations home matches this year. Even though they are seen as warm ups they do sell out.

If Super Rugby went under and the remaining four teams applied for entry in to GRR I have serious doubts about whether the Rebels would meet the requirements under their current management model. Twiggy would put a lot of conditions on them which may end up being the best thing to happen to them.
Is there any chance where we could keep the "ARU screwed us, Rebels are a financial black hole, the sky is falling" seperate from the "Global Rapid Rugby, here comes the Western Force 2.0, Lets put on a happy face"

With respect to you all and I am not trying to single you (Bakkies) or anyone else out. But for the last couple of months Every thread except the Birthday notices (gday Spartan) seems to get turn around to a "ARU screwed us, Rebels are a financial black hole, the sky is falling" discussion.

For the love of all that is holy - could we try and post some positives about Rugby Union. We all, aparently, love the game.

And yes - if I dont like what is being written - I could scroll on. OR Some of us could not add the same old thing to the same old discussion.

    anyway

Yes I still live in Sydney. Yes It would be different if I lived in Perth. Love you all- bring on the hate.

He didn’t have to go there. He could have stayed in Perth or gone to Munster.

The Fiji Rugby Union is still negotiating with the Global Rapid Rugby on its partici*pation in the tournament.

This was confirmed on Tuesday to SUNsports by FRU chief execu*tive officer John O’Connor.

“We are in the final stages of the negotiation process in terms of our participation,” he said.

“We’ve not signed the M.O.U (Memorandum of Understand*ing) as yet. For us we’re looking at the interest of FRU and more importantly the welfare and avail*ability of our players.

“We have commenced preliminary preparation works for the tournament as the competition is expected to start end of March.

Fiji will likely be the strongest team, based on last years NRC win with just ""on island players"". With Brexit and Kolpak coming to an end, there could be bunch of their UK based stars soon looking for one of those contracts back on Fiji.

Looks like start date for GRR has slipped back 2-3 weeks to late March. I dont have a problem with that. Too hot in Perth in early March for rugby.

Can understand they need to cross the t's and dot the i's, but what other options for comps do they really have? They were knocked back by RA & Super (who are only too eager to grab their players!), NZ doesn't help much which really only leaves the NRC? It's not like they haven't had time to think about it.
