Sure, we beat Latui (Fiji A). Time for the next step!

Pretty sure they meant the Argentinian team wouldnt make it to WA because of travel and not Fiji

So we could of had a Western Force vs Argentina clash here but unfortunately it wont happen, would have been the biggest game the Force has probably ever played with the exception of the Force vs Lions game in 2013.

    Article below

Argentina’s Pumas are set to take on Shute Shield club Randwick ahead of this year’s Rugby World Cup, more than 31 years after the proud Sydney team faced the All Blacks.

The Argentinians are set to make a pitstop in Sydney for a 10-day camp on their way to the Rugby World Cup, with a game against the Wicks slated for Coogee Oval roughly a fortnight out from their Septermber 21 tournament opener. The date is yet to be confirmed.

Sydney’s east has been a home away home from for Pumas coach Mario Ledesma, who lived in the area when he was working with the Waratahs and Wallabies, and it proved the perfect way to break up their trip to the World Cup.

“I like the place and we wanted a hard game but not that hard so we're playing Randwick, that's we're talking about that,” he said.

“That'll be two weeks away from the first game.

"We're trying an opposed training after that, in the week in Japan before the World Cup, might try get something over there but we're far away from everybody, so maybe we're training against each other, just going a little bit harder."

Ledesma said they felt stopping in Sydney would help the side adjust to the Japanese conditions and time zone away from the bubble of the World Cup.

“It cuts the trip in half, it's a very long trip from Argentina, it's almost 38 hours or something,” he said.

“So we'd prefer to come over here, then stay a couple of days over here and then get rid of the jetlag and then you just go up north."

Argentina will arrive in Sydney on August 31, three weeks out from their first Rugby World Cup match against France, before they travel to the tournament.

Ledesma said he had considered other possibilities for a stopover, including some time in Perth and a potential clash with the Force, but ultimately landed on his former stomping ground.

“We were looking for a game to play before the World Cup and...we were trying to play against Perth but obviously we had to go to Perth and it was quite tricky to go over there and then there was another option coming through Europe but you still have jet lag coming through Europe,” he said.

“I thought it was ideal and I feel good coming over here and the boys do too, so they like it.”

While it might not be a full-blown international, Ledesma said it would be a helpful final tuneup, before the main event.

“We were talking about if we wanted to do 80 or do maybe 3x30, we'll see but i think we'll do just a normal game,” he said.

“That'll be our last game before the World Cup but it won’t be like we haven't been playing footy because the boys have been playing for a while now.”

The match comes 31 years after a Randwick team that included England coach Eddie Jones and Wallabies coach Michael Cheika took on the All Blacks at Coogee Oval in 1988.

New Zealand won that game 25-9 but it’s a day that has gone down in rugby folklore.

This time around, there could be a host of Super Rugby players featuring in the Galloping Greens side, along with Junior Wallabies pair Will Harrison and Ben Donaldson.

Depending on the final Wallabies’ World Cup squad, the host side could even include current Test player Ned Hanigan, who missed the cut for the first Rugby Championship squad.

Former Wallabies hooker Adam Freier is also still playing for the Wicks.

The Pumas are testing out their camp spot already, spending three days in Coogee in Sydney's east before travelling to Brisbane for this weekend's Suncorp Stadium Test against the Wallabies.

Not rugby itself (and I don't exactly know where to post this), but I was looking up IP Australia's website in the Trademark section and came across this:

Malaysia Rugby to build new rugby stadium

This week, Malaysia Rugby Union have confirmed they will be building their own rugby stadium in Putrajaya, south of Kuala Lumpur, due to be completed over the next few years.

On the Malaysia Rugby Union Facebook page, the MRU said they “are delighted to deliver the confirmation that we will be having our own rugby stadium in a few years time.”

The stadium will apparently be built in Precinct 14, Putrajaya on land covering 6.47 hectares. The stadium is believed to cost RM17 million with funds from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

In total, the development will include two rugby fields to be used for rugby tournaments and training. The fields will also have “powerful 1200 lux spotlights, changing rooms and other first-class facilities.”

Malaysia Rugby went on to say:

“Perhaps, with the presence of this new stadium, it will create a new platform to unite all rugby fans around Malaysia and even the world. In a few years time, this stadium will become a sacred home ground for Malaysia rugby teams to win more matches, as well as to discover new talents in the future. Malaysia Rugby Union is very serious to make rugby the number one sport in Malaysia.”

    Rugby in Malaysia
Rugby is massive in Malaysia already. Since we started RugbyAsia247, we have seen how prolific the number of rugby tournaments and events are in the country. Equally, it is very hard to track as the different regions have sub-unions and tournaments don’t always get publicized very well.Malaysia Asia Rugby 7s U18 Boys 2019 champions

At the end of 2020, Malaysia Rugby Union said they “are currently planning to develop a longer local competition, as we create pathways from the state level to the national level. Apart from providing a more competitive platform for the players, longer rugby competition will make it more commercially viable & sustainable.”

The Union is also keen to have more professional players and compete at the highest levels. Grassroot development programs via the National Rugby Development Program (NRDP) & Get Into Rugby (GIR) program strive to grow the game across the nation. In addition, the MRU said ‘Akademi Ragbi Malaysia’ will support the development by collaborating with IPTAs, colleges, teacher’s institute and schools.

Financing is the biggest challenge throughout most of Asia. The Union did say that RM2 million supports the ongoing NRDP program & more than RM1 million additional funds would be made available for the development of women’s rugby.

    Malaysia Rugby 2019 highlights
The national XVs coach for Malaysia is Brad Mika, a former professional NZ rugby player who won 3 caps for the All Blacks. Late in 2019, the MRU confirmed he will stay on as the coach in 2020.

The Global Rapid Rugby tournament will also have a team based in Malaysia, the Malaysian Valke, who will compete in the 2020 tournament.

Western Force finally start countdown to history-making $1 million Global Rapid Rugby competition

It has been two years in the making but Western Force have started the countdown to the history-making $1 million Global Rapid Rugby competition.
GRR is the vision of mining magnate Andrew Forrest who was angered by Rugby Australia’s controversial axing of the Force from Super Rugby and rejection of his $70 million offer to keep the club alive.
It has evolved from the ground-breaking invitation World Series Rugby and last year’s Showcase Series in which the WA side was unbeaten.
The Force are back in training this week preparing for the March kick-off.
They play a home-and-away series against Manuma Samoa, Fijian Latui, a Malaysian side supported by South African Currie Cup club Valke, Hong Kong’s South China Tigers and a Shanghai team backed by New Zealand NPC outfit Bay of Plenty.
The grand final will be played at HBF Park in June.
The Force have plenty of local talent this year with six of the 34-man squad recruited from local rugby and the Force academy.
They have joined a dozen players who stayed loyal to the Force when they were axed from Super Rugby or who returned to help rebuild the club.
The Force won last year’s National Rugby Championship and coach Tim Sampson has all but one player in full training.
Winger Brad Lacey (knee reconstruction), flanker Chris Alcock (knee and ankle), prop Kieran Longbottom (knee) and scrum-half Ian Prior (broken wrist) are back.
Second-rower Johan Bardoul (hamstring) is a month away from joining his teammates.
International backs Marcel Brache (USA), Henry Taefu and AJ Alatimu (both Samoa) are also back after their break from World Cup duties.
Sampson lost seven players — recruited to Super sides, overseas clubs and the Australian sevens squad — but he sees that as a credit to the Force program.

RM17 million is ~$6 million. Would be nice to have a stadium built for that!

So it is a Shanghai based side. Hopefully we see some news out of that camp soon. Like name, playing base and kit.
