1 ) Fiji. McKee’s Flying Fijians side is primarily made up of Europe-based professionals, but the Drua players are all drawn from the largely amateur ranks who play “on island” in Fiji.

So the Fiji Drua are already plenty strong already. Topped the NRC. Bring back a few of their marquee players from Europe with WSR money and with the carrot of a $1mil to win WSR, they will be real WSR trophy contenders.

    2) Two Japanese sides.
Panasonic Wild Knights are unbeaten this year in the Japan Top League.

The game against the Force was a pre-season game for them, so if they are coming in WSR as expected, they will also be serious WSR trophy contenders.
Then a second Japanese team like Suntory, will equally as strong, as they beat Panasonic in the final last year.

    3) Hong Kong were competitive against the Force, so again bolstered by some WSR funded marquee players will not be easy beats

    4) Western Force will have to add a few marquee players to their own list next year, to be competitive with these 4 teams.

Looks the standard of rugby in the WSR will be a lot stronger NRC and right up there with Super.

I must admit, I did put the idea forward that, if the WSR was very Japan-based, with no teams further west than Perth, Singapore and Hong Kong, then a Hawaii team might be an idea as a Japan-Polynesian Island co-operative, especially as Fiji is already in it. Of course, this was on the G&GR forum, so I was pilloried from pillar to post for jumping the shark; but my logic was that there was only 2hrs actual difference in time between the two.

    But hey, themz the breakz.

NSW has committed to playing matches against the Sharks (April 27), Jaguares (May 25) and Brumbies (June 8) at the new stadium next season with usual home ground Allianz Stadium being rebuilt.

Venues for the remaining five matches are yet to be finalised but CEO Andrew Hore said they would likely be spread over three or four spots, making the Western Sydney Stadium their most-used home base.

Well Twiggy's bid for a WSR team in Western Sydney has really shaken NSWRU into action. I note this is only a one year deal while their normal stadium is being rebuilt, and they hope by then that Twiggy is less interested in Western Sydney, and then NSWRU can revert to their normal pattern of ignoring the development of rugby in Western Sydney.

Given the stadium rental the NSWRU will need a few unit trusts to pay for it.

Can we change the title of this threat -time is not running out. We are just waiting for the announcements.
Or perhaps we should star a new thread
