The top four sides will go into a three-week sudden-death finals series.
A 3 week sudden death final series will obviously look like this:

    Finals Week 1
Preliminary Final - 1 vs 2 - Winner advances to Final
Quarter Final - 3 vs 4 - winner advances to Semi Final

    Finals Week 2
Semi Final - [Loser of Preliminary Final (Home ground advantage)] vs [Winner of Quarter Final]

    Finals Week 3
Final - [Winner of Preliminary Final] vs [Winner of Semi Final]
    Prize: $1 million AUD

I like that format. Simple and effective!

I dont think a 3 week sudden death tournament is possible with 4 teams.. unless you put the table leader into the Final and then had in Quarter final week 1 - 3 vs 4 , and then Semi final week 2 - 2 vs winner of 3 & 4, Final week 3 - winner from semi final vs table leader.

It's a terrible format with the table leader having to sit out on the sidelines going stale for 2 weeks.

But yeah you are correct about the preliminary final format. Because of the preliminary final it "technically" cannot be sudden death.. bit still kinda is (and is for the other teams).. it's most likely the format I think they will use though.

Be better like this - two-legs for the semis, then final.

    UEFA Champions League style.

    Well it is really.
Week one - sudden death for loser of the 3v4 game
Week two - sudden death for winner of 3v4 v loser 1v2 two
Week three - sudden death final End of story.

It is by far the best format. Let's hope that is what Twiggy, Hodgo and the crew have in mind too.

If we were playing finals this week based on the ladder, the top three all have same wins, only bonus points or +/- separate 2 & 3. Even if only top two have same wins, they get to host the semi, which gives them an advantage, so I have no issue at all with 1v4 and 2v3 with the winners into the big dance, highest ranked grand finalist host the big one, simply, easy to understand. Less travel, less money, less marketing etc etc, all the important issues that need to be considered if we want to see this competition continue. We know RA are bust and Fox will only contribute so much. They have there new baby cricket about to take centre stage and will be pumping the cash into that.

What would be really interesting would be to let the minor Premier choose who of the other finalists they want to play...

You know, Australia is one of the only countries that insist on have a "Final".

English Premier League Soccer (Futbal) whoever is top of the table at the end of the Home and Away season is the Champion team for that year.

But imagine going thru the whole season undefeated and then the night before the Grand Final - the team goes out for a meal and gets food poisoning....... and the best team loses. It could happen.

    But lets keep it simple

    1 v 4
    2 v 3

winner of Final 1 v Winner of Final 2.

    Champion.

Exile, it says a 3 week sudden death Tournament in the article. Can you show me how to make that span 3 weeks? This is just the old Super rugby format which although I like, I think I prefer whoever tops the table to have a second chance in case of a huge upset fluke or bad ref decision. Therefor it is still worth while topping the ladder

But that isnt the top 4 sides though now is it. I see what you did there.

I am trying to predict the finals format they are reporting in the media, it says a 4 team, 3 week sudden death finals series.

Not a bad format though but you may as well just do the whole prelim thing and let 4 qualify, it maximizes the number of finals games eg. 4 games instead of 3.

Sorry, my mistake, week 2 was meant to be 2 v 4

But there was more than a little tongue in cheek going on, so feel free to rip on it as much as you want.
