    High Praise for Socceroos.

Mexico Coach Juan Carlos Osorio .....

“I profoundly admire Australia as a country – what they do in order to recover their players and how they compete honestly and transparently. In some cases they seem like rugby players playing football: they are gentlemanly, they don’t go into personal fights, they fight every single ball with all they’ve got."

Have enjoyed every minute so far. They are pretty unlucky to not have more points in the bank really. Like Costa Rica last night. But you have to take your hat off to Brazil; after waiting till added time to strike they could have been expected to shut up shop. Buy no; they kept attacking as hard as ever and got a second late one. It was an amazing spectacle with several players seemingly hit by a sniper from high in the stands only to do a Lazarus time and again.

    "they're like rugby players"

A tired cliché I've heard many a time from foreign soccer coaches from nations that don't play rugby and don't know much about Australia and its sporting heritage. The last guy to say that was Austrian, before that a German and before that a Brazilian.

Maybe not on this occasion, but it's mostly used as back-handed slur.

Definitely not. He may have been channeling Huw Richards - the Rugby writer. And definitely not the Welsh Lock.
