Im confused. Are you happy or sad?
There is a difference between giving thanks and prostrating yourself in front of him.

I personally am uncomfortable chanting a rich benefactors name. Super uncomfortable creating a Stalin-esque 'Cult of Personality' based around Twiggy.

I think you will find Forrest is as well

He does however know he has to be seen as the face of this venture, gives it credibility (financial backing)

    OK, my 2c

Im not ashamed to say I misted up when he walked onto the field and gave his speech at the start, I was ready to drink the kool-aid.

I am proud and grateful for what twiggy has done for rugby in this state (and Australia, to be fair)

But I'm uncomfortable with the chant. It felt self-indulgent, and I feel like Twiggys interview at the end showed that he agrees with me.

I'm happy for the Forrest family to get a fair bit of perk put of this (the crowd singing happy birthday to Twiggys father, the family box on the pitch) gods sake they're paying for it they deserve it.

But a chant doesn't feel right

I think there is a difference between a chant starting of its own volition and a chant being lead by someone with a Microphone who is being paid by the bloke whose name is being chanted.

I am 99% certain that he wasnt asked to do it. And probably copped a bollocking for doing it.

    But......

Agree with both of those, but even the speeches felt to me like they missed the mark a little. We shouldn't be there for an individual, but neither should we be there because of the injustice or even just because we are West Australians. The only reason to be there is because of we support the team, we support the competition, we support rugby in Western Australia, and we want all three to be the best they can possibly can be. That has to be the basis for everything, because all else will pass.

A Twiggy chant just seems too cheesy, no class. Fairly sure he doesn’t expect that kind of stuff & it comes across as sycophantic.

Geez tough crowd. The guy dips into his own pocket to the tune of about $12-14 million to resurrect our beloved Force and throw a massive party for us and some of yous cant even spend 2 mins saying thank you through a simple chant. Without Twiggy none of this would of happened. Its not bowing down to some sycophant or demi god, its saying thankyou to a fellow passionate fan.

I don't think it's that we don't appreciate what he has done; it's more that someone employed by the Force/Mindaroo/whoever was trying to get the crowd to chant his boss's name. If a 'Twiggy' chant was started by the crowd itself, I'd have been only too happy to have joined enthusiastically (as long as it was before I lost my voice somewhere in the 2nd half!)

For the record I spent much more time writing my post of appreciation than any chant at a rugby match

Not my cup of tea, but if it was a one off on the first night then I can understand. But hopefully not a regular thing.

Incredible how quickly negativity can crop up. Twiggy chant this... Pommy commentator that...

FFS we’ve got rugby back in our state to watch.I for one am over the moon with that.

We’ve all endured enough heartache over the last year to last a lifetime.

Enjoy what we have... cos the alternative is a lot less appealing.

    Nice problems peeps!!!!

I appreciate what Twiggy has done and am very grateful but I will not act like some little school girl with a crush or kiss anyone’s arse!
