    Penrith gone by tomorrow

Very sad it is inevitable though. Surprised they lasted so long as the far superior Canberra and Newcastle were kicked out well over ten years ago.

NSW, Sydney and the RA the gifts that keep on not giving.

At least they had a team Kiwi/Hawthorn, Southern District Pirates and Northern Panthers all gone from Dewer Shield. In Victoria, Dewer Shield is shrinking to greatness as clubs lack the numbers of players to field teams: these teams only field in the the second division, called the Premiership

Can we expect an exodus of Penrith players to WA?

Penrith recently have had to pick 15 and 16 year olds to play Colts to meet the criteria. It is dangerous and unrealistic particularly if they are front row forwards. This bad news will take away the game's rare good news stories regarding West Harbour flogging Randwick and Parramatta beating Gordon.

I would like to see Penrith play in the Canberra competition in the lower divisions to start with as they will lose players anyway so it wouldn't be fair to start off in the John I Dent comp. They won't survive in Subbies as they are too isolated and there is relegation so the club would wither away without security of building up a strong side.

On the topic of ACT club Rugby the board has identified the growth of Cooma in the next decade or so due to rapid population increases mainly due to projects from the Federal Government and shifting of departments down there. The goal is to focus on the growth so the Cooma Rugby club can field more grades and juniors to enable them to play in the John I Dent Cup. This will get rid of the bye. Queanbeyan are building their mini Rugby base due to the Googong development by basing mini Rugby squads at the local school. There will be a population of around 20,000 there within the next five years so if it is successful they can field more minis teams in the older age group then push them in to youth age groups from under 13s onwards. The local council are also helping them out through building a new facility at their Taylor Park base. Due to the decline of enrolments in the big Rugby private schools the clubs have taken on more importance to develop players and keep them in the game. At least in the ACT the clubs and schools are under the one body with the clubs holding the balance of power at board level.

Concerned Supporter raised an interesting point that the NSWRU and the SRU have done absolutely nothing to balance out the competition. Sydney Uni are destroying the colts competitions. In Canberra Easts hadn't won a game since 2015 (around 1011 days according to Chris Dutton) the Royals head coach who coached Royals to a undefeated premiership went over to Easts with six players. New Brumbies recruits James Verity-Amm and Mees Erasmus were allocated to Easts. Yesterday Easts beat Royals and remain the only defeated team in the comp. This is something that other comps need to look at particularly when the game is struggling so badly as you can't afford to have the same clubs continue to struggle.

The ACT must be one of the few major club comps focusing on growth rather than shrinking.

Yeah I heard that about the Dewar Shield the likes of Kiwi Hawthorn got relegated due to not meeting the grades and colts criteria. They were one of the stronger teams in the 90s.

With the real issue of players not continuing playing after school the administrators need to wind their necks in about their criteria as it is dangerous and some players are playing three games in a day to help their club field grades.

    Inevitable indeed.
The Emus always were on the wrong side of Prospect Reservoir.

Another case of "Shrinking to Greatness"?
At least the coterie of Friends of SUFC cannot be accused of inconsistency.

In what way are they isolated?

There are 5 Subbies Rugby Clubs within a 30km Radius of Penrith Emus.

That reminds me of something, Bakkies, but I can't quite put my finger on what.

The Successful Shute Shield teams have been picking at the Penrith Emu carcass for years.

Penrith Juniors are incredibly successful. They continually win age championships. As soon as they hit Colts they have been identified by Clubs and recruited.

Penrith Emus dont have any great or for that matter good players.

Who's next on the Rugby Snobs of Mosman hit list - Parramatta (too far West), The Shire (Southern Districts, too far South)?

In the eyes of the good burghers of Lower North Shore, Concord is probably too far West.

Parra have been shaky for a while. No idea about their current financial situation.

Parra just got funding to revamp their home ground.

They are on the improve - Club wise.
